My endoscopy came back showing a hernia, but my doctor never said anything to me about it. Come to think of it, I never saw my doctor after my tests, only got the pictures back without an explanation. Good thing my family is in the medical field, huh? I guess it's small enough to be unimportant; I've only ever had heartburn when eating sausage, real bacon or orange juice first thing in the morning. And for a long while now a piece of sausage doesn't bother me (for that matter, neither did a few pieces of real bacon I had last weekend). I guess if it's not causing you problems, leave it alone.

Hopefully, flybullseye, most of your problems are related to the hernia and a prescription antacid will fix you right up. And you can eat a lot!

They want to try to control the acid reflux with Nexium before they do the surgery to fix the hernia. He's actually going to do a gallbladder hida scan, too, to make sure that it isn't making the problem worse. It's been 9 days, and the Nexium is starting to "help", but I still can't eat much. I can eat easier, just not a whole lot or the acid will back up into my esophagus really quickly and by nightfall, the Nexium has worn off completely and I'm waking up in the middle of the night with reflux and nausea and everything. I just get up and take a bunch of Gaviscon and Pepto and go back to sleep. The doctor told me to start taking a Nexium at night before I lay down, too, but I haven't started doing that, yet. I'm afraid I might OD!! Have you ever heard of this?? I don't know anyone who takes 2 Nexium per day. I'm on the 40mg, too.

I wish the Nexium would hurry up and kick in so I CAN EAT A WHOLE LOT!!! I already told my husband that as soon as I can start eatin again, I WILL get FAT!!!!!!! I only weigh 104 lbs right now. I really want to be able to eat again!!

Michelle, I'm sorry you are having so much difficulty with your reflux. I hope you have visited the GERD forum. No, I haven't heard of anyone taking 2 Nexium per day (but maybe in GERD???). If you don't want to up your dosage have you thought about switching your schedule and taking Nexium at night? That might be something for you to consider if your main problems are at night.
I'm glad you are doing the hida scan, that is the best way to detect gallbladder problems. Who knows, maybe yours is faulty and docs will be able to correct all this misery.
Hang in there, Michelle. Make sure to visit GERD if you haven't already; I'm sure they will be able to be of more help.

Thanks 7Lil!  I will check out the GERD forum.  I have been on the Nexium 14 days, now and it's finally starting to kick in.  Having IBS-D, I still have to really watch what I eat so I don't trigger a D attack, but I am able to eat again.  Before Nexium, I couldn't eat anything!!  It was horrible!!  Thank you for all your support!  Hopefully, I'm on the road to recovery!!

Me too! Thank you!! I'm having problems tonight, but it's probably my IBS acting up. It happens every day at about 7:30pm for some reason and lasts until about 9:00-9:30pm. My stomach just feels all wierd......crampy....I don't know how to explain it. No appetite!!
