(No Subject)

Hi I'm new to all this I am 55 year old male who was healthy until 2 years ago when the doctor called me and got me to take statins (20 mg Simvastatin) long story, loads of horrid side effects, but now a year after stopping taking them I have been told that I probably have Ibs, has anyone else had this problem start after taking statins?
My tests are not all completed but have all come back clear so far and this is all very well but this doesn't help with my symptoms which are churning stomach, pain up your back I have changed my diet, no gluten, dairy, and recently no yeast, also recently, last week I started acidophilus and aloe Vera from Holland and barrett also I have tried a fluconazole in case it was candida but I don't know how long this will take to work or how long it will work for, does anyone know this, I am exasperated by the doctors both NHS and private. Can anyone recommend a sympathetic doctor in this area, Hampshire, Sussex, Berkshire, etc and has anyone tried the Ibs and gut disorder clinic in Oxford?

Hi many thanks for the reply, I don't know if you are in the uk but changing doctors is not so easy here it takes 14 days from when you ask for the appointment to when you get the appointment, and then the doctor wants you to leave with a prescription as soon as possible, it's not the doctors fault that 18 years ago the government let in hundreds of thousands of new people into the country so the NHS is just totally overwhelmed, we were younger then and had no idea at the time what would be coming down the track. I will keep your list of supliments and try them, do they work? What are your symptoms now? I have pain and fatigue not too much Diahorea or constipation but mostly frustration with the doctors.

ya, i don't know anything about statins, but will do some research - whether or not they are responsible for any or all of your current symptoms is to be determined -

i don't have anything against docs in general, other than what you say, they are all very busy and don't have the time it takes to really diagnose each and every patient - that's why it's imperative that you are equipped with as much knowledge as possible -

i have Ulcerative Colitis, a distant cousin of IBS - but they are similar in many of the symptoms, just not the same kind of damage - IBS is normally less severe but can still be very life altering - my wife is currently working on an IBS dx - she had an endoscopy last week -

i understand your wanting to get some answers soon - unfortunately these digestive issues are a bit challenging for everyone - no one answer fixes everything - you just have to try a figure out what works for you -

my signature needs some updating - the only thing i'm taking is Dr's Best curcumin c3 complex - i try to get most of what i need from what i eat - i also need to get some blood work done in the near future to check all my levels -

so what kind of testing have you had done ?
