Hi, I am a 45 yo mother of 2 who for 7 years off and on have had pain under my left rib. Its not a sharp or crampy pain, but more like a soreness. It felt like something was swollen and when my ribs would hit it it would hurt. Well since last July the pain is now every day and on both sides under the ribs. Sometimes the pain is sharp. but mostly it just hurts more like a throbbing. When its not throbbing it just a weird fullness kind of discomfort like a band all around from under my ribs in the front to the back behind my ribs. I am constantly bloated, and have gas. I have had a ct in July that was clear. I had an ultrasound of the liver, gallbladder and pancreas and it was clear. My blood work is fine, except my iron level was high. This doesn't sound like IBS, does it? Thanks in advance for any help.

You never mentioned anything about
your daily bowel habits which are lined to having IBS issues or possibly even IBD (inflammatory bowel disease).

Theyre normal, but sometimes I get diarrhea, but its in the am after I have taken magnesium to help me sleep. I have no cramps or pain in the tummy area. For years, like 20 years, I thought I had IBS. I would get major cramps that were so painful I passed out once I would feel faint, sweat, feel sick and eventually I would pass several bm's and feel better. Come to find out after a colonoscopy that I didn't have IBS, but had adhesions that glued my intestines together After he pulled them apart, I had no pain. After reading some about
my symptoms some people say that this could be IBS which makes me wonder bc I always thought it was ibs was more crampey

I know that IBS can be very individual so of course IBS can't be ruled out yet at least but I think you need more tests done maybe, but I just don't know what others tests. What caused the adhesions to glue your intestines together like that? I've never heard of that before.
I don't get cramps with my IBS, many, many do though which is why it's so individual.

You know, I am not sure. It usually happens with abdominal surgeries, but when I first started having the cramping and then bm's I hadn't had any surgeries except for my heart surgery at the age of 10. Maybe that did it, but it is so far from the abdomen.

Sounds like you've had all the tests to see if your pain is organic in nature (if that's the right word).
Since IBS is a catch-all "diagnosis by exclusion" of other possible causes that's what you have until you discover it's something else.
This is a UC forum but some people have IBS also. I've never had pain but have several IBS-like symptoms that my GI says is UC-origin not IBS. Very hard to figure things out in a soft-tissue place like the gut.
Are you sure it couldn't be the replay of your previous adhesions? When was your last c-scope?

I have exactly the same symptoms, no cramping, BM usually OK, just dull pain under both ribs. Tests have shown no organic cause.
I think it is something to do with the colonic flexure s they are places that gas can get trapped easily. Probiotics and a lower fibre diet have helped me but not relieved it totally
