Hi everyone,
I'm a 18-year-old female who has been having burps 24/7 and is belched practically all day with absolutely no appetite since 12, when that randomly started to happen. Since then I've had appointments with dozens of doctors that prescribed me different drugs: pantoprazole, omeprazole, esomeprazole, ranitidine, simeticone, cyproheptadine, digestive enzymes, but nothing seemed to hit the nail on the head.
One doctor told me to do an endoscopy for H pylori and the test came back positive; then gave me lanzoprazole + 2 antibiotics, which I took for 10 days. During those days I was doing really well and I was thinking it all would end, but after I stopped taking the antibiotics I started feeling like before. I then went to another doctor, who told me to do a breath test to see if the H pylori had been really eradicated, but it came back negative.
Since then this doctor and all the rest just keep telling me it's IBS, which according to them is caused by emotional problems (!!!) and that I should visit a therapist, but I don't have anxiety or depression problems. I don't feel this gets worse when I feel sad or whatever. I've felt like crap some days and that didn't aggravate my problem at all.
Nowadays my diet is restricted to just a few foods that are easy to digest and don't bloat me too much, but as a consequence I have trouble gaining weight. I need like 6 hours to digest something as simple as a bowl of cereal. Another thing that I notice is that I release air (by burping) when I lay on the side of my body, and when I go from being seated to standing up and vice versa.
I'm desperate because this has made me completely unwilling to even get out of my house, and now it's ruining my academic performance too. I end having dinner at around 2 AM and I spend most of my days writhing in my bed. I feel as if doctors don't know what I have so they just want to give me some SSRI and get me out the way. I'm skeptic about this being IBS, especially because I don't have constipation nor diarrhea, but I though I'd ask here to see if I could get some guidance.
Thanks in advance.
