Hi: I'm normally on the fibromyalgia forum, but saw some posts here mention bloating and wanted to make a quick comment.
After I had surgery for a ruptured appendix a few years ago, I developed gastritis, likely from taking Naproxen for pain. I was so bloated it looked like I was 9 months pregnant! And wow--I was in major pain!
I saw a gastro doctor who did an upper endoscopy and colonoscopy. It was then I was diagnosed with gastritis. I was on a low-residue, no spices, nothing acidy, etc. diet for several months. Very boring, but helpful diet! I gradually reintroduced some of the formerly forbidden foods and things like soda pop and chocolate.
Just want to say that if you have gastritis, at least for me, you may have to "watch it" when it comes to foods for an even longer time. Even now, 6 years later, I still have flare-ups, often coinciding with fibro flares. I sometimes wonder if I should have reintroduced the 'forbidden' foods, even years later. Still not sure, but it was a wax and wane kind of thing.
Right now, for example, I'm back on the very "careful" diet, but my stomach is thanking me! I had had some bloating issues, but it does seem to be getting better, though slowly. I have less of the minor irritation pain; sort of a gnawing. Sometimes, no irritation at all. Drinking plain water has helped me, too, though I miss sodas and coffee.
I should also mention that the gastro doc said my digestive motility is "off" and just kind of odd. I do have a neuro condition, so maybe that's a factor.
Just my story. And just throwing out the possibility that bloating may mean gastritis, meaning not just inflammation, but irritation and pain as well. No doubt some here already know about
this condition, but in case you don't, something to consider...
Best wishes to everyone here.
