Colonoscopy @ 23 - No Prep?

Hi!

I'm a 23 year old female - I'm going in for a colonoscopy this week (first) - I have IBS/blood after wiping sometimes so my doctor wants to ensure it's not anything more serious or Crohn's.

My colonoscopy prep is only to take a fleet enema 2 hours before the appointment - no dietary restrictions etc etc - also they said I'd be able to drive afterwards - which leads me to believe I won't be getting any drugs?

A tad stressed, has anyone had similar circumstances or does this seems normal for Colonoscopy prep? My parents have had them and have had to take the kit the night before and follow guidelines.

Any feedback would be much appreciated =]

Are you by chance getting a flexible-sigmoidoscopy? As the standard prep is 2 fleet enemas. A sigmoidoscopy goes half as far as a colonoscopy does. Sigmoidoscopies don't usually involve a sedation (unless you request one in advance). You can drive home fine. Sigmoidoscopies can take biopsies just as a colonoscopy does.

I've had a number of them and they are no big deal at all. It's a 5 minute procedure once they start. You feel a little bit of pressure as the scope injects air so they can see further. Afterwards, you pass gas to relieve the pressure.

Waaaay easier than a colonoscopy. Again, Sigmoidoscopies only see the 1st half though (your left side rextum, sigmoid colon and a peak into the transverse colon, that goes horizontal across your belly button). If you have right-side problems than a sigmoidoscopy will not go that far and a full colonoscopy would be needed in that case.
