Hi everyone I have been experiencing terrible gas pains and bloating at night that would only be relieved when i finally went to bathroom and it was diarrhea . Called the doctor, and because of the panademic, only had a telephone appt. and it was with a nurse practitioner not my gi doctor. I was told at first to take fiber supplements and i told her i already was. This continued to be a problem at night unless i didn’t eat anything. I called again they had me go for an xray and said i had a lot of stool in my colon (which i would of never suspected because i do go everyday, but its loose. Xray technician reported mild fecal loading. They then told me to take 1 senna tablet and capful of miralax everyday for a month and get back to us. I did that and still experienced the gas buildup and pain. The other day i sent a note to doctor on hospital portal and he told me to take magnesuim citrate 10 oz bottle. Well that made me have liquid stool but felt like i should of gone more. Honestly this covid 19 is killing people that can’t get in to see their doctor because doctors are running scared (sorry it makes me so mad). Now i am up in the air not sure what to do. I’ve been googling what to do about fecal impaction and can only find info for children. Can anyone give me advise?

I would request a stool sample test to make sure you don't have an infection or other pathogens going on. This can be arranged over the phone with the drs office.

You had asked about Linzess in another post. In the chronic pain forum a few people were able to get it prescribed. Narcotics are notorious for causing terrible constipation. Their drs had to really fight to get insurance to approve because it is very expensive.

If you are dealing with constipation the last thing you need to take is a laxative or mag citrate. The colon is made up of nearly all water, these will deplete the colon of liquid.

For the constipation stick with stool softners but also keep in mind you need to stay well hydrated. For a more natural effect, try warm prune juice. Also, look at your diet, eliminate foods that cause gas & there are plenty.

I have been trying everything, lol. I have never taken narcotic pain meds but I was taking a medicine for anxiety which I think may have contributed. I think sometimes I do overthink, but for now I am trying just to eat lightly and of all good foods. Doctor finally messaged me and told me to continue miralax. I also have been drinking tons of water, definitely have changed the way I am eating. Thanks for replying I was feeling alone.
