Mucus-like blood before bowl movement?

Whenever you have blood in your stool, you should see a doctor. If it's bright red, it might be from internal hemmroids, but it could be something a bit more serious, like a rectal fissure or an ulceration low in the intestines. I have internal hemmroids and I never knew it until I had a colonoscopy; they don't ever hurt--although they sometimes itch if they've become damaged.

While constipated stools are the usual culprit behind hemmroid bleeding, if you have to sit on the pot a lot due to diarrhea, that can put a strain on your rectum and cause hemmroids/make them bleed.

I have occasional bleeding but I have crohn's disease also. It usually takes up to three months to be scheduled as a new patient to see a gastroenterologist. I would suggest one over a regular doctor but you should see someone about the bleeding. My gastro usually schedules colonoscopies within a couple of weeks. The prep is the worst part of the test. Here's what happened to me some years ago: My mother made my doctor's appointment as I was out-of-state at college.  But I saw my G.P and had an ultrasound on Monday, saw a G.I. on Tuesday or Wednesday and had a hida scan that afternoon and had a colonoscopy and endoscopy on Friday.  I had to take off from college and come 400 miles to see the doctors and get my tests, so they were amazingly fast about getting all of that stuff done.  Once you get in to see a G.I., colonoscopies are typically done a week or two later.  A good G.I. has a months-long waiting list (at least mine did); newer G.I.s can be seen inside a week or two.  At least that's what I have seen over the past few years.
