:) I am asking this gross question.....And I am not going to be embarrassed about it...

Okay, here's the dealeeo!  I have been passing mucos with gas and with stool...Whats the deal with that!  This has been happening now for about 3 months...It really increased when I had a bad reaction with Omnicef.  I have tried to do a colon cleanse, I went to my gasto doc, but he wanted to wait for the colonoscopy and we did an endoscopy instead...Thank goodness, as I had a stomach polyop removed.  I go back in about 8 weeks and I hope we do the colonscyp...This is annoying to say the least...

Has anyone had this problem, if so, what's deal!!!!!

Just about everyone with IBS has mucus at some point. It can be both with stools and all by itself. No one knows why this happens, but some doctors have theorized that the colon is irritated by something and it keeps sloughing its outer layer to try and get rid of the irritant--which comes out as mucus. Others think that the colon is like your sinuses and when it comes in contact with something it doesn't like, it actually makes excess mucus--again, to try to flush out the irritant. I guess it's rather like have colon allergies and your colon is constantly running!

Keri is right, mucus is super common among IBSers. Are you having any other symptoms, like D (diarrhea) or blood?

I only had the blood with the bad reaction to the Omincef, that was pretty bad...But no, no other symptoms really...One day a few months ago I just started passing this mucos, mostly when I have gas...I was recently diaganosed with a hital hernia....I can't eat like I used to, it feels if I have a lap band..My food seems to get stuck right between my rib cage....I am on the acid reducing meds so I hope this gets rid of the hital hernia...
My diet didn't change or anything...It just started one day our of th blue...I am going to call my doctor sometime tomorrow, this is really annoying...I've had IBS not for years, but nothing liike this ever happened...

My diarrhea I was able to control by a diet change a few years ago...I suffered really bad with it...I had my system I thought in some good working order until this stuff started...

Come to think about it....This started shortly after I did a new colon cleanse...I loved the new cleanse it worked great...I wonder if it had something to do with it...

The vast majority of people on here, who have an opinon about colon cleansing, are against it. Those of us with D can't see the point in causing ourselves to have any more; the people with really bad C says they feel great for a few days afterwards, but then the C comes right back again. I've not heard of anyone yet getting anything close to long-lasting improvement from it. And several people have complained that, after their cleaning out (from either a herbal colon cleanse or a colonoscopy prep), their symtpoms got worse. We've theorized that in flushing the intestines out, the good bacteria that you need to function gets flushed out too.

Have you tried taking any probiotics? Yogurt and acidophillus milk are ways to get some, as are a variety of pills such as Digestive Advantage and Culturelle. Colonoscopy preps are also known to cause some irritation/reddening of the colon walls, so that may have happened to you, causing your intestines to start producing (or expelling) more mucous in an attempt to heal themselves. If you don't suffer from constipation, you can try getting more calcium, as this has been shown to reduce intestinal inflammation. But calcium pills can be constipating, so you can't take those if you have that problem (conversely, they really help out a lot of people with D). More milk and yogurt, if you can tolerate dairy, should be an okay way to go, even if you have a C problem, as the fat and other things in them balance the calcium out.

Yes, I eat a lot of yogurt...Atleast 2 a day, I used them for snacks with a fruit cup...The colon clease actually I do is for parasites...Its a total body cleanse...Since we do them every 6 months we do retain a benefit of feeling better....It does begin to reside as the 6 month deadline draws near, but it all depends on ones diet....

I've not heard of using a colon flush to get rid of parasites, but that does actually make sense. Looks like a good emptying out of the colon might get rid of them.

At the risk of offending any colon cleansers out there, they will not really do a thing for parasitic infections.  Parasites burrow in your intestinal mucosa; they cannot be "flushed away." Just FYI!
