Hi all,
My name is Katherine and I recently turned 30. I normally post in the chronic pain board as four years ago I was diagnosed with chronic pain syndrome as a result of an injury to my right SI joint (lower back) which got worse and worse with my desk job. I am on Fentanyl and oxycodone for break through pain.
about four weeks ago I ate my dinner and it felt like it was just sitting in my chest. Pressure but no burning or anything like that. Over the next few days the pressure in my chest got worse and worse. It felt like I needed to burp really really badly but just couldnt. Then after a a few days I got really dehydrated as anything I ate or drank made the pain in my chest and stomach worse. I wound up in hospital for four days where they did a gastroscpy and CT. They found nothing wrong. By this stage I was doing HUGE burps after I ate or drank anything and I was getting a pain in my left upper abdomine, just of to the left and above my belly button. They said that they thought I might have had gastritis but that it should get better in a few days. After I went home it seamed like it was getting better. I started to be able to eat and drink without the pressure in my chest and the burping reduced. Then after another week the pain on the left started to get worse and worse. Then the pain in my chest and need to burp came back. I had an ultrsound which was all clear. I have been given nexium, colese and the stuff you give babies when they have collic. I have also been told to drink peppermint tea and take mintec which is a peppermint oil capsule that you take before you eat. These things have helped the burping and pain in the chest but have made the pain on my left side worse and worse, it has also given me diarrhea, before the meds I went a few times at night or after I ate a decent sized meal and they were soft but not diarrhea. I have lost alot of weight and am still loosing it. A month ago I weighted 67kg or 148 pounds and now I weigh 59kg or 130 pounds. The doctor doesnt seem to know what is going on. He has said that he thinks it is a functional problem but that is all he has said.
Can anyone help me with what they think might be the problem, has anyone had similar problems? or give me some idea of what questions to ask the doctor. I am very worried about the weight loss and the fact that the pain is getting worse and worse. I am getting very tired and I and struggling with depression again.
Any help of comments would be really appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Katherine
