H2 were originally used for ulcers before they realized most ulcers were from a bacteria. They still help with the acid as that is what they used to think caused ulcers and in the case of some ulcers they can be caused by drugs like Advil, Aspririn and then they still prescribe things like Tagamet along with other things. I quit the PPI's because they are not saying that they may cause bone loss long term. They were never meant for long term use so just now are starting to see side effects. I find the Tagamet(cimetidine) works great and you can take it just before you eat if you forget.
Definetly stop the peppermint. First thing my Dr. took me off of. However, I am guilty of using the combo peppermint, fennel and ginger when I am really going thru a bad time with stomach other than acid but the one I use is supposed to disolve in intestine, not stomach. Really not sure of that so might only use a couple times because everything tastes like peppermint and I think the acid starts back up anyway.
It could have been the water backing back up since the valve was allowing it. Just sort of flushing up and back. I have had something similar when I drink water and I have a lot of trouble with the valve.
