Is anyone on here on birth control? I take Loestrin24Fe ... I've been on it for almost 2 months now, and I know that's not hardly long enough for my body to adjust to it yet, but I was wondering if it could be affecting my stomach problems/ibs. I know that birth control often causes nausea as a side effect. I didn't have a problem with that the first month I was on it, but I'm realizing that I think that's where my problems are coming from in the mornings. (I take my BC in the morning because of my schedule, or else I'd just take it at night). I didn't know, however, if it could make an already-upset-tummy worse, or it the morning queasiness and the more evening-related IBS stuff are just totally separate entities. any thoughts?

B/C pills can definitely wreak havoc for both IBDers and IBSers, it causes bacterial overgrowth, which seems to exacerbate our symptoms. Taking a good probiotic indefinitely is known to help with bacterial overgrowth so if you have to take the pill you might want to look into taking a really good probiotic (everyday) if you arn't already. But there is also the hormone factors associated with exacerbating IBD and IBS symptoms, often why many of us women get worse symptoms around and during our periods.

I have been taking ovranette for 8 years and suffered a little with nausea in the beginning but have since had no problems with it. know there can be a lot of side effects with the pill and certain types suit better than others. Talk to your doctor if this carries on and you could maybe change to a different type. Take care

I also have nausea issues with traditional birth control. I am now using Nuvaring which is a monthly vaginal inserted ring and I have not had any issues with nausea since I have been on it. There is no digesting a pill (which I'm happy b/c I take enough pills). I have been using it for 2+ years and haven't had any problems thus far.

Somebody was telling me really good things about the nuvaring the other day ... i don't know that it'd be all that great for me right now, but maybe after a while...
is it uncomfortable? i feel like i'd probably feel it...

I guess everyone is different but I don't feel mine. My hubby doesn't feel it either which was one of my concerns in the beginning. I have tried different things including pills, condoms (I have a reaction to them, not sure if its the latex or spermacide), foam (what a mess!!), and Depo shot (gained 30 lbs on it in less than two years)... those are my experiences so from all of that I have to say that the Nuvaring is the best for me.

My doc was talking to me about IUD because she is concerned about me taking estrogen and the impact on connective tissue diseases. Nuvaring contains the same hormones as the pill although they are targeted at the source instead of going through your digestive tract.

I asked the same questions about birth control pills, I was feeling more stomach pains and getting diareha after taking it, a lady suggested switching to a birthcontrol pill called yasmin, haven't tried it yet, but I will I just went off birth control altogther pain was horrible

Ugh, yasmin? I've heard terrible things about that one - I've found that if I eat an adequate amount of food in the mornings with my BC, it doesn't bother me as badly. And the queasiness is worse when I'm in a hurry or really stressed out.

Hi Sunshine, i am now using the depo injection. I had terrible trouble with the daily pill, headaches, nausea, upset tummy, IBS attack every period and bad cramps that seemed worse every month. Since i have been having the injection, i no longer have any of that, i don't even get periods at all any more, which for me is a great bonus. I highly reccomend this, it has been nothing than brilliant, and you only get it every 12 weeks so no need to try to remember every night!

I have never heard of that dbab. Is it a new form of contraception? Ive taken the pill for a number of years now and was thinking about trying the depo injection but have heard a lot of bad things about it so thinking I ll just stick with the pill!!

The Nuvaring is fairly new, been on the market probably around 5 years I think. I tried the Depo and like I said before I had gained a lot of weight from it and when I stopped it, I didn't get a period for over a year but that is just my experience. Some people are okay with it. If you search Nuvaring, you can find some information, I think they have their own website as well. Maybe another option for you. I know my GYN is very for it and she convinced me and I'm glad she did.

The Nuvaring is kind of like oral birth control, in that you wear it for 21 days, and it locally releases hormones, and then you take it out for the last week of the 28-day cycle and you're on your period. Basically, it's more of a local-acting hormone thing rather than having a systemic effect. I've heard very good things about it from people - I just personally don't think it's what I need right now. I might think about changing to it after a couple of years, though.

My birth control hasn't been bothering me since that day, so I think it was maybe a fluke. I just have to make sure and eat plenty with it, and it's fine.

I actually stopped taking BC because I found it was contributing to my attacks. Once I stopped my attacks cut back by more than half. Unfortunately, I've decided to get back on. I was going to try NuvaRing (my doc pushed it considering my IBS) but then I decided to try a low hormone pill first. I start in a matter of days so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my IBS doesn't come back full swing.

Sunshine, my doc prescribed Alesse 1/30 (generic: Levonorgestrel). My prior pill was Ortho-Novum 1/35.
I hope Alesse treats me better than O-N did.

I find that my period makes my IBS worse, anyone else have that? Because of this, I am frightened of changing contraception as when I am not taking the pill, my periods are really bad.

My period makes my IBS worse too, however, only for about a week. When I was on the pill I had problems 24/7 and I couldn't figure out why, nor could I find any links or remedies. Finally, after my mother had been harping in my ear for about a year that it was the pill, I stopped taking BC. Instantly my IBS got better. Now my periods really suck, and my IBS acts up that week, but for the other 3 weeks out of the month my IBS has gotten MUCH easier to manage.
