So it was very good that you got scoped. It seems that the longer you let UC or Crohn's go on without treatment, the harder it is to get yourself arighted again. Like Lil mentioned, there are meds out there to help heal the ulcers, so hopefully after a little while on them, you will notice an improvement (which is usually more than you can say for IBS, as there aren't any meds to "heal" it).
If you're not living in Japan permanently (sounds like you're not going to), then make sure you get all of your records, pictures from your scope, etc. to take back home with you so you can get a GI and continue your care. Like I said, I think you are in good hands in Japan. If they recommend a special diet or herbs or acupuncture or anything like that, I would take them up on it. On the bright side, their food is much better for the gut than most anyone else's because it's not too spicy and is very low in fat and exceedingly low in sugar. Stay away from the fried noodle places, though; I've heard they are greasy and fatty, but homemade noodles are good.
