Hi Bobafett, Welcome to the IBS board! I feel for you... I can't imagine having IBS and IBD. There are, however, a couple members on this board that do have both. Hopefully they'll be around to share some tips. Sadly, there aren't too many meds out there specifically for IBS. The main ones seem to be antispasmodics and even anti-depressants/anti-anxiety meds. Others are more basic like fiber and probiotics. Here is a list I had posted in a separate thread:
Antispasmodics - Levsin, Bentyl, Donnatal, Pamine, etc.
Antidiarrheals - Immodium, Lomotil, Calcium
Fiber supplements - Psyllium, Metamucil, Citrucel, etc.
Laxatives - Miralax
Anti-Depressants - Elavil, Paxil, Prozac, Effexor, Zoloft
Anti-Bile - Questran, Welchol
For constipation there is Tegaserod (Zelnorm) that is supposed to keep the bowels functioning properly and regularly. It treats constipation, bloating, and abdominal discomfort. -- THIS MED HAS JUST BEEN PULLED BY THE FDA
For diarrhea there is Lotonex. It reduces cramping, discomfort and urgency.
Probiotics - Promotes a healthy gut flora... it is "good bacteria" that helps push out the bad.
Digestive Advantage is for all IBS symptoms: bloating, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal discomfort
