I thought that by having your own thread it would increase your chances of more replies.

I've never had gallbladder surgery, so I can't help you.  I just wanted to welcome you to the site.  We have a few members who have had their gallbladders removed (don't think they just remove the stones)... I hope they'll be on soon to answer your questions.

I don't think that they will just remove the stones. I haven't had gall bladder issues before but my husband had his removed because of stones. Actually he was READY to get rid of it as much pain as it caused him. His was done laproscopic and usually its an outpatient surgery and you are out the same day. He stayed over night though because of minor complications. It took him about a week to be able to get up out of bed without assistance from me and another week to fully recover to where he could go back to work. You have to be careful with this incisions on the abdominal wall. It is painful after surgery but you get pain meds and it helped my husband a lot. He is so much better now and he would take the pain from the surgery over the pain from the stones anyday.

Don't be too nervous!  This is a very common surgery; I had it done two years ago because of gallstones.  I was in and out of the hospital within five hours.  I took the prescribed painkillers and slept for most of the next couple of days, and took five days off work, but then was back to my normal self.  You'll have 2-3 tiny incision scars that you can barely notice; the biggest one is less than an inch long, just below the sternum.  When are going in for surgery?
