Do any of you ever get chills when you have one of those " really mean" IBS attacks ? you know the ones I mean. Not the usual daily gassy, bloated,belly ache, don't plan to go anywhere before you have been out of bed for a couple of hours. I mean the kind of flairup that feels like you caught a 24 hr virus. I know the chills probably come from the Vagas nerve ( no temp involved).but I find it really disconcerting. My gastro dr is not impressed with that symptom or queasiness. He just looks sympathetic and writes another RX for Bentyl. Merri

Ugh, I know what you're talking about.  Although usually when I get the chills, I end up with a ridiculously high fever.  But I think a lot of people experience the random chills when they are feeling ill.  Cuddling up in a blanket with a cup of tea is the only remedy I've found!  Tylenol, though, could help you feel better if you have a low-grade fever.

I don't get a fever. More often than not my temp will be below normal . Running below 98.6 is normal for me. Occasionally , with the chills it will get to 98.6. I know I have some Diverticulosis  with the IBS but evidently not enough for that to impress the dr either. I know the Vagas nerve which controls the temp regulating of the body so to speak, runs through the digestive system. It would be nice if doctors would volunteer that kind of information when you have a symptom instead of making you research and then have to ask. Incidently, my problem which is back and forth between C and D started after I had my Gall Bladder out.  Merri

Merri, I know exactly what you are talking about. I do the same thing; no fever either, just awful chills after a really bad episode. My doctors PA understood it completely and it isn't anything to worry about, it is just uncomfortable. She said it is kind of like when u have a virus and u do it, but anyway it is our bodies way of reacting to it. Also, mine started just before I had my GB removed and I was very ill. However, it has been going on now for almost 4 yrs and I was diagnosed with Post-Infectious IBS. Mine is so bad, that I have had to file for Disability. Sorry you are going through this as well, it certainly is no fun at all. Hope u feel better soon.

Hi Floss, Thanks for your input. I find I pretty much run my life around IBS. Annoying to say the least. The part I hate is when a dr ( usually male) says it's caused by stress. We all know it's esasterbasted by stress but GIVE ME A BREAK! Every once in awhile I get a really nasty attack that last for a few days consisting of the queasy stomach,  C and or D , Chills and this in turn makes you start to think you must have something else  ( of course Worse) This certainly curbs your social life.    Merri

I would get bad chills after I had my explosive bile diarrhea bowel movement during my gall bladder attack. As soon as I thought I was done on the toilet, I would run to bed and cover up with everything I owned (quite a bit, considering that I used a down comforter at the time). No doctor I ever talked to explained the chills or even thought them a symptom of anything.

I can say yes I get the chills after a severe attack on the bowl. it can be 80 plus my stomach on theskin feals50 degree's and sweating. it does not last long.

they say when you eat your bloodrushs to your stomach, well not in my case. hows this one when sitting suc a long time my legs cramp up dueto so much pressure applie ?

OMG!!!  When read this post, I actually said "finally" outloud!!!  Well I have been having the this prob for yrs!!!  My normal temp is 96.3 and I have a "flair up" once a week to once every two weeks!!  But my sweets and fevers will happen for a day... all the way up to 5 days straight... Until I am able to have a BM....  My hubby just calls it "when you get full"!!  Well my stumac gets sooo hot, and I get a fever of up to 100.7 or so...  but one time (with the help of one of my twins) I wondered how hot my stumac got.. so I just laid the thermometer on my stumac... and it got up in the 101.7 area...  I never knew that your tummy could get a fever...  atleast hotter than the rest of your body.. especially with it being an external temp...  I know taking a temp like that sounds weird...  but I have kids... so weird things happen when you have kids!!!  One of them had asked me if my tummy had the flu.. and if it had a fever...  so I had to show her... by taking the temp...  so that is where we came up with the "mommy is sick.. her tummy has a fever again!!!" 

Does anyone else get these sweets and fevers longer than a day???  I wont eat, or be able to use my feeding tube, and will sleep until all is gone!!!

I get the chills as well. However, in the last year, I have had a different symptom added to the list of IBS symptoms. Once every 2-3 months, I will wake with severe chills, slight fever and aching all over. When this happens, I know to expect severe IBS symptoms. This usually lasts 24 hours. I am home today because I had another episode but this time all the other symptoms stopped, after several hours, but the IBS. I am usually curled up in a ball all day when this occurs. I have chronic IBS with moments of relief. During these episodes, I also experience mild nausea and a mild headache afterwords.

Thank u for posting this. I thought it was just me. I had chills and 101 fever with a terrible flare up. I started humira a few weeks ago but have not got any symptom relief. I'm at my wit's end. I have to b careful when and what I eat. I was completely fine until 2012 after having shingles.
I'm starting to worry nothing will work.

I am so sorry you are going through this. Mine started back in the early 80's. The symptoms remained much the same until 2011. The symptoms now include the periodic bouts with chills. It has changed my life. Do you have chills all the time or just with bad bouts? I had not heard of using Humira for IBS.
I have found my bouts last 24 hours so I just ride it out (something you may not be able to do). Because of that, I have not tried medication. The rest of the time, the chronic nature of this keeps me running.
I wish I could offer you something more but I have looked for answers since this started but I can listen.
I will tell you this, if you have IBS with constipation, there is a new drug for that and your GI can tell you about it. Since I swing between this and the other, I won't take it. This has truly changed my way of life.
I can listen-I know if I did not have friends to talk to you, I would have lost it a long time ago....

I don't know about chills but I'm really sensitive to temperature changes. If it's cold, I'm freezing. If it's warm, I'm hot and gross.

I had my first chillls after recent severe IBS atack. Caution: Be aware of signs of impending attack and don't try to drive home. Totally lost consciousness briefly and was drinking on the grass section separating the north and south bound lanes during one attack. By grace of God, didn't have accident. Learned my lesson. Pull over. Don't drive.

I get severe pain, sweating, everything turns gray. Now I get chills too. I had to chuckle about previous post. GI Doc isn't impressed by any of my symptoms, including chills. Back to the Levisin.
