Just wondering....

What creatinie level would justify dialysis?

I so need to get better educated about this disease. Thanks

I'm with you on that one Elizabeth. There is so much to learn. No wonder doctors have to go to so many years of school and they still don't know it all. I will watch this thread plus when I get off work I will research it some for us. I do know they use a formula that takes the creatine level in as a factor its confusing but will try and explain alittle later if someone else doesn't do it by then

I have the same question.  My creatinine is 7.0 and BUN is 90.  My doc wants me to start dialysis, but I think I feel well enough to postpone it for a while.  Some people start at 10 or 15% function so I'm not sure if there is a magic number to start.  My doctor personally would like his patients to start when they are at 10%.

I just find it so confusing.  I don't know if I should go by the "numbers" or how I feel.

You should go by the numbers.  Some illnesses are silent killers.  I wouldn't push this issues of life over pride....

There is no "magic number". The Glomerular Filtration Rate is what gives the percentage of kidney function. You can google it. It is a scientific calculation that uses your creatinine, albumin, weight and few other factors. I know with my neprhologists, my symptoms were a major factor. I started at 8% kidney function. I was very edematous and short of breath; my blood pressure was very high. I knew I couldn't go any further. Judy

They usually use the gfr as MJLD mentioned. Often docs tell you at 15%, but others at 10% depending on how you feel.

The bottom line is the sooner the better for your future! Alot of people with end stage renal disease don't 'feel bad'! Damage is being done to your cardiovascular, skeletal and other systems! Judy
