Ok I need to know something???

Which ones of you work with kidney issues?  Are you or have been on dialysis how much time do you set aside for it?

I work ALOT but don't know how long I will be able too.  I'm starting to look farther then just today. When I was first told about all my kidney issues I always told my husband "Let me adjust to it" then I would look past one day...

I know my dad ran his own business so his hours were flexible. He did the home dialysis which allowed him to avoid clinic visits. He would come home in the late afternoon take a nap and drain and go back to work. That lasted until he had his transplant.

I worked until I just could not longer drag myself to the job. My family, pastor, and employer encouraged me to quit long before I gave in and did it. I was a nurse and truly loved my job. I still miss it severely! I wasn't working when I started dialysis, but I have to say, I don't know how anybody could. It would definitely be a major balancing act...And especially for those raising children! Whew! I'm exhausted just thinking about it! Judy

I am currently working! Luckily for me, I don't really know I have kidney problems except for foaming, cokish color urnine and getting up a lot at night. Sometimes fatigue but I don't know if that is from the kidneys or another problem. Not much pain at all in my kidneys except an occasional shooting pain that lasts a few seconds.

I do have to take 2-3 days off of work a month for treatment or because of joint pain but so far I have been blessed to have the ability to still work.

Laurie, I have noticed you mention dialysis several times. Is this something your doctor is starting to encourge more and more? From talking with other people, I hear this is something to pray you never have to do. I really hope you don't have to start dialysis, I am definatly praying for you and for all my forum friends!

Elizabeth..  Your father was so lucky to be able to be flexable with his time when dealing with dialysis

Judy..  My mother was a nurse with great advice and a heart of gold but to take her own advice was impossible.  nono    But nurses are a breed of their own yeah

Amy..  Joint pain has gotta suck.  My husband has roaming joint pain and sometimes I can see his discomfort in his eyes.

I have been told dialysis will happen.  I can't run from it or hide under a rock it will happen.  Don't know when, could be tomorrow or 5 years from now.  I'm just now starting to deal with my kidneys.  Well I mean I have been seeing my doctors goings to my procedures and having my surgeries.  But to acually think about the future.  Trying to somewhat plan or think through what will happen.

I work a fulltime job.  Usually I work 12 hour days 5 days a week.  In a warehouse which is pretty hard on my body.  But I love my job other than having a crazy, mean, coldhearted supervisor.  I love inventory the bigger the scale the happier I am.  I even know I can't be doing this for to many more years.  Its wearing me down.

But thank you all for responding.  It gives me a view of how others deal with health issues regarding their kidneys..

I worked while on dialysis, though had 2 days where I went in for 1/2 days. My boss was kind enough to allow me to take those 2 afternoons for dialysis

Welcome Dennis...  You will find through out the HealingWell forum people that care and willing to support you.

I will invite you to post a thread and tell us about you so we can know more about you.

With anyone who has kidney pain when you start dialysis does the pain go away??  Reason being is the pain is wearing me down right now.  Maybe its the working thats kicking my butt.
