Wow I tell you its been a long few months.

We had some major floods here in Nashville that dislocated so many employers out of the industrial section.  My husband one of them. (my lame excuses for being gone. smilewinkgrin )

I hope everyone has been well during my absense.  But now everything is on track.  My mother was always right, when it rains it pours.  I'm also being laid off on July 30th but that is ok.  I can finally fill out my disablity paperwork.  Then I will have all the time on earth to troll around the message boards. Thats makes me happy yeah

Hey Laurie!!! Glad to have you back. Sorry the last few months have been so rough on you! I will say a few prayers that your disability paper work goes quickly and smoothly!!!

I have a few friends going to school down and Nashville and they said it was horrible for a bit. Does it still smell bad?

Keep us updated on how you are doing :)! So glad you are back!!!!

Yes the industrial district smells BAD!!!! My daugher was flooded into a hotel during a convention. 17 yrs old and was stuck there with about 700 other teenagers and young adults. All us parents were freaking out and talking with the few parents that were there with their kids. The convention was called MTAC. Just say the kids had so much fun during the disaster but lost all interest on day three. She was sohappy when the tow truck got to her and her car to bring her home the whole 15 miles....lol

I am glad you are back but sad to hear you are getting laid off. I hope your disability paperwork goes through very quickly. I know you work a lot of hours so maybe now you can finally get the rest you deserve.

Retiring at such a young age can be a two edged sword. Will I be able to enjoy the time I have left or will I miss feeing an enjoyment of a job well done? I love to work I have been accused lately of taking my job too seriously. I just can't handle errors when they can be helped.

I'm hoping I can find things to do with my time to be creative and still find fulfillment on a job well done.

I fully believe its a blessing

My sister-in-law is in the same boat as you. When she first stopped working she was going crazy and somewhat depressed, but now she vounteers at an elementary school. She does everytthing from reading to the kids, subbing for the secretary, to helping raise funds for school events. They treat her like a queen. Plus she can decline when she isn't feeling well or has other plans. She is happier and healthier now than ever before.

Wow thanks for the idea! That is a great idea. When I stayed home with the kids for 13 yrs I used to spend time at my oldest sons school. He was in special ed and I felt all his teachers needed help over the years. I spent about 4 hours a day in and out of the classroom and went on all feild trips.

I am a teacher and I know I would love the help from such a bright and energetic person as yourself. I always say when I retire I am going to be a volunteer in our cafeteria. They always seem to be having a great time and the kids love them. The volunteers are a somewhat ornery group of ladies who make the most out of life.

We had one vounteer that organized a program where people in the community came and read to different classes. The kids and adults both love it.

Until you brought that up I hadn't even thought of it.  I had spent to many years with my son and his teachers then when they told me when he was in the 8th grade that I needed to give him some space confused    I then stuck to field trips.

It never entered my mind that I could still do it even if all my kids are in high school.  We have a school 2 blocks away I can walk there and get my excercize and enjoy the kids all at the same time.

Actually most of our volunteers, (other than field trips) are people who no longer have children in the school. My sister-in-laws children are both out of high school. She says it is better that way. There is nothing like a little kid to make you feel wanted.
