stage 3 ckd with elderly

hi i hope you will be able to help.

we have just found out my nan has stage 3 ckd but we were never informed until now as she has been rushed in with deep vein thrombsis. She also has alzheimers and is very poorly with that.

i dont know what to expect do they treat the elderly for ckd? as we havent been told and she was diagnosed in april. what do we expect with the disease? should she be taking anything? we are so confused and dont know what her life is going to be like with it as well as the other problems she has.

can anyone shed any light???

If you watch your salt intake and if you,re overweight, get the weight off will take a load off the kidneys Anytime a person is over weight it's unhealthy. How often have we heard this.The biggest thing is what you eat and the salt factor. My Doctor told me you can live a long time in stage 3 of CKD if you take care of yourself. Sound advice given above will also help keep you off dialysis or delay this progress. There are 5 stages of CKD. Most people aren,t diag. until the 3rd stage. I went to a urologist, did the 24 hr. urine test, has been anemic for years (my meneses ended at 36 so there was no real need for excess IRON loss) a sure sign of kidney problems. So as my family DR. continued to treat my anemia I silently went through stage 1 and 2 the he said protein's showing up in your urine and I'm sending you to a specialist. That.s who told me I'm at stage 3 kidney disease and the rest you have what he told me. This been 3 years ago and each visit he tells me I'm doing good and I try hard to do what he say. O' and it's best that you cook most of your dishes so you'll know the amount of salt you're eatting. HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY
