I have had this pain for months now, right side under ribs then in my mid back right side... thought is was a muscle but going on too long now, its a dull pain always there, if i twist to the left or right it gets worse, when im sitting its there , laying down in bed its there and if i lay on my left side it feels like i am crushing my organs, the pain was not too bad reason ive stuck it so long, but ive noticed its getting worse by the week, and more annoying, plus some times i feel bit sick and get the odd head ache , I also woke up few times with blood in the back of my throat , not sure if it was a nose bleed that went down or blood that came up.. or if its related to the pain , had my lungs checked all ok and had heart checked , i was smoker for 22 years and quit 2 years ago so i had these checked at hospital ..
Any advice would be good, IM male , 39 , not over weight not under weight .I normally dont go to doctors unless i start to worry , now i am starting to worry, I dont like to waste their time


i have not been taken any replacements , my diet has always been the same, i have to go get bloods done on monday , ..... FBP.....CRP & U&E ... i am just worried as its been going on for ages now

It could be a lot of things. I'm familiar with what you're going through because I have the same exact thing. The list of potential causes is long:

Gallbladder
Muscle
Scoliosis
Liver
Biliary System
Colon
Kidney

I thought it was my gallbladder, so I had it removed, but the pain remained. Because you said it is in the front and back, it makes me think it could be gastrointestinal. Normally, pain in the kidney itself is focused on the back only, as would be skeletomuscular pain.

In my case, it boils down to two potential causes. First, I most likely have Crohn's Disease, which causes pain throughout the GI tract. Second, I have a very rare kidney disorder, called Loin Pain Hematuria Syndrome. My kidney bleeds and cramps, causing chronic pain. The pain from LPHS is usually slightly lower and different from the other pain that I have similar to yours. That's why I'm not sure if it is the kidney, or Crohn's pain.

If I were a doctor, which I am not, I would check your urine for blood and protein, as well as a kidney ultrasound to look for stones or swelling. I would also do an abdominal ultrasound to check the gallbladder and liver, and blood work to check liver function. You also may need a HIDA scan to check the function of the gallbladder.

It's not guaranteed that those tests would show anything, but it's a start, and you could rule some things out. Good luck with getting an answer. Keep us posted.

Get scanned for cysts, could be PKD, which I have.

Just curious to know if there was a diagnosis to this?
I have this same exact pain, on and off for years. Lasting for sometimes weeks/months at a time. My Dr said the same, its muscular. Well, that doesn't last that long.
I've had x-rays of chest and back. Finally MRI of back (thoracic region) showing arthritis. However, I've also had 3 elevated kidney function tests (today being the third) in less than a year. So, this concerns me more than anything.
