Hi there, I have joined this chat forum on behalf of my husband who has pkd (down to 22% GFR) with about 18 months - 2years left before he has to face dialysis. We live on a small block of land 12 acres that has a lot of areas that require spraying, pine trees that require regular topping and cleaning up and stock to look after. What we are wondering is if there are any other pkd people out there on dialysis that can give us an idea as to whether or not we could possibly hope to manage our small block when he is on dialysis or whether we are kidding ourselves. We really don't know how our lives are going to change as we get closer to dialysis. Can anyone tell us honestly whether we need to be thinking seriously about moving to a smaller property? How much does life change? Yve

HELLO YVE,

I JUST RECENTLY FOUND OUT THAT MY MOTHER HAS CHRONIC KIDNEY FAILURE, SHE IS CURRENTLY IN THE HOSPITAL WITH LIQUID HAVING TO BE EXTRACTED FROM HER LUNG. THEY SAY IT'S DUE TO HER KIDNEY ISSUES. I WAS READING AND WAS CURIOUS IF YOU COULD GIVE ME ANY ADVICE OR IF YOUR HUSBAND IS GOING THROUGH ANY OF THIS?? I WOULD ALSO SAY, FROM WHAT I HAVE READ ON DIALYSIS IT IS ONGOING LIFELONG PROCESS NEEDED SEVERAL TIMES A WEEK AND IS VERY TIME CONSUMING SO I WOULD SUGGEST LIGHTING YOUR LOAD AND MOVING TO A SMALLER PROPERTY TO ELIMINATE ANYTHING THAT COULD CAUSE MORE STRESS ON YOU AND YOUR FAMILY WHILE HE IS ON TREATMENT. I HOPE THIS HELPS AND I HOPE YOU CAN GIVE ME SOME INSIGHT IF YOU HAVE ANY FOR ME, IF NOT THEN I WISH YOU ALL THE LUCK WITH FEELING BETTER. THANKS!
