Hi scaredsoul! I can tell you how my personal kidney failure went. Diagnosed with PKD at age 19. Remained at stages 1-3 for 20+ years. Around age 41 I slipped into the stage 4 range and stayed there until last week, when I slipped to stage 5. (I am 44). For my particular disease, there is no known treatment. The neph's advice is to eat a low protein, low sodium diet and control my BP. I tried to do all of these things, yet here I am in stage 5. It seems to me that there is no rhyme or reason to kidney disease. Since I don't know what type of disease (if any) you have, I can't help too much. When you see the neph, ask lots of questions. It never hurts to speak with a dietician, also. Best of luck to you! Don't let it take over your life!
