Low KIdney function what does it mean

Hi everyone,

I just received a phone call that my urine test came back that I have low kidney function... the doctor asked me to push fluids and come back in one week to do another test.... I am wondering what causes low kidney function?? Is this something I should even be concerned with?? I also had a blood test to check my electrolytes and those were just fine... I am wondering if it was dehydration wouldn't those have an issue?? In my opinion, I stay very hydrated, so don't feel that it is dehydration. I have been getting these horrible pains in my back here and there where my kidneys are located. Just wondering if anyone can answer whether I should even care I got the call??

Is it that it could just be dehydration?? Or something other simple like that?? They didn't seem at all alarmed when they told me, so I just don't feel that it is anything to worry about! But, I also have never had any kidney issues so if you feel it is something I certainly shouldn't ignore, I won't. I just don't understand how it would be anything serious because I am only twenty two, I know things can happen at any age, I just don't get why it would be of concern... I have had urine tests before, but no one ever said anything about my kidney function, but I don't know if they have to be testing kidneys to get feed back on it other urine tests were just to make sure I wasn't pregnant before prescribing birth control.

If you are having pain in your back, you should get it checked. You may need to get a CT scan. You can't be to cautious.

How did your follow up test go?

Just a thought about dehydration....I have a hard time staying hydrated due to coaching a travel softball team, BP meds, and some other meds. I always think I am staying hydrated, but almost always seem to be dehydrated due to my urine color and output.
