Hello,
I am a type 1 diabetic and have been for 24 years. I just gave birth to my second child 8 months ago. After his birth, I had my usual labs done. All were normal :)!
8 months later..... I was assigned a new doc and she ordered same labs. Cholesterol was great, A1C great, GFR great BUT I had protein in my urine. The value was 1196 (i think, I can't recall and she didn't give me a copy). Obviously, I was bummed and really surprised! I asked if we could re test it just to be sure. I would have to stop BF in order to start Ace inhibitors. Today I got the results...... No evidence of protein in my urine. Yay! BUT now there is a significant amount of blood in my urine.
How easily do these test throw false positives? Has anyone ever had this happen? I was relived to get the results but now that I'm thinking more and more perhaps blood is equally as bad a protein?? The value was 29. She would like to retest in 4 weeks but I feel inclined to ask for a referral to a nephrologist. Thoughts?
TIA!!!
