Suddenly at stage 4 KD

I was usually around GFR 50 for the last year.
I was at 42 in Dec, 2022, and suddenly was at 26 sometime in March.

That really got my GP doc's and my attention.
I modified my diet a lot and the next week I was at 27.

The next week I was also at 27.
I wanted to go up, but at least it didn't drop.

The next week it was at 26 dammit.
I FINALLY was able to see a nephrologist last week.
He wrote up a lengthy lab order and I had blood tested on Apr 19.
I always got results in a day, but so far, no results.

Have any of you crept back up to stage 3 from where I am?
I'd at least like to see it not drop further. I'm 84 now, so I don't have much to lose.

I will see a nutritionist soon and should get more info on what I can and can't eat at least in moderation.

I had the ultrasound done yesterday morning.
As soon as they finished, they wanted me to get right to my urologist.

I have no idea what they found, but I'll find out this afternoon after I see the urologist.

We went to the urologist today and he said the ultrasound showed my bladder isn't emptying and urine is backing up into my kidneys.
If unchecked, I guess it's curtains for the kidneys.

We're going to have TURP surgery to roto root the urethra and hopefully make the bladder easier to empty.
I'll need a general anesthetic (I hope I wake up), and spend a night in Chandler Hospital, then have a catheter in me for a week.

I don't look forward to that, but it's better than the alternative.

I really hope this isn't all for practice.

I had my TURP surgery yesterday evening and it seemed to go well.
I had some discomfort afterward, but Tylenol seemed to blunt the pain.

A funny thing is I can't feel any discomfort in the prostate.
Maybe there aren't nerves there, or maybe they put pain med in the IV.

I spent an uncomfortable night in there, and got less than 1 hour sleep broken up in 5 or 10 minute increments.

They took a blood sample before letting me go, and my creatinine level was at 1.88. I calculated it to equal GFR of 35. (modified to use DaVita scale).
That puts me in stage 3b which is all I hoped for. I'm going to keep with the kidney disease diet, and I hope the numbers keep improving, or at least don't worsen

I was wondering if it made sense posting about this if no one seemed interested. I did notice the vies though.

I complained to Sonora labs about not seeing my last lab results. They said next Tuesday, and I really complained.

Right now, I see they sent a partial result and my kidney function hasn't got better than when I was in the hospital. Dammit, I wanted better news.
I am still in stage 3b kidney function with 33% efficiency.

The only ray of hope in my estimation, is my sodium, potassium, and phosphorus levels are normal. Maybe they should be, because I'm not eating or drinking much at all, but they were normal before. I guess this is a marathon.

Maybe, I'll try to see a "good" nutritionist. for a diet that lessens some restrictions or maybe, it takes more time for my GFR to improve? So many ifs.

I really want to wait to see if my GFR goes up.
I'd hate to be put on a "one size fits all" diet and find out, it's not tailored to my lab results.
I've heard the wrong diet could be dangerous or even fatal. Probably not that extreme though.

Today, I learned that my nephrologist is going to be out of town and they want to change my next appointment from 06/09 to 08/16 or thereabouts. I didn't care for him anyway.

They offered another doctor and that appointment would be around 07/16. CI really want to see where my GFR is before I do anything further.

I really didn't particularly care for the first nephrologist.
An assistant doctor had my follow-up and wanted me to take salt pills to build up my sodium.
I told her it was no wonder my sodium was so low because I had cut salt completely out of my diet.
I told her I would consume salt again and bring the level up.
My next labs showed sodium 131 and normal was 137-?.
I still haven't bothered seeing a dietitian.
I had developed a urinary infection, and they put a cath back in for a week, and gave me an antibiotic. that seemed to take care of it.

My latest eGFR came back at 47.
My protein in urine came down to 198 from around 400.

I never did change my diet much but have been drinking lots of water.

One side effect of the TURP surgery was that my PSA came back at 1.7 down from 3.5.

Part of the roller coaster is I got the Covid variant in early Aug.
I had a horrible sore throat, could barely swallow, and couldn't speak for several days.

I generously gave it to my wife since we share everything.
We recovered pretty quickly.

I ended up losing 7 of the pounds I had regained but have gotten them back.
Things are returning to normal now.

I had 3 consecutive GFR readings of 44. A nephrologist told me that GFR normally drops 1% each year and That I won't live long enough at age 85 to die from it.

I was having severe low back pain and Tylenol didn't seem to have any effect on it.
I know now that it was stupid, but I took 2 Aleves, twice (different days). My last GFR was 40 and I can feel I tire more much more easily.
