having trouble urinating

Hey I am new to the forum, I'm a 22 yr old male not on any meds, and for a while now I have trouble urinating. It comes out but not as much as it should. It will take me 5+ minutes to completely urinate. Now I have had 2 instances where i absolutely could not urinate and I had to go to the ER and get a catheter both times and while I was in the ER they tested for STDs and whatever else and they had no answer to whats is wrong or what caused it and that was over a year ago. After that I lost my health insurance so that is my reasoning behind not going to a urologist.

I was just wondering if anyone knows whats wrong with me or had a similar problem.

Hi ps18 and welcome!

Is there any way you can go to a primary dr to have your prostrate examined?  You may be having some trouble with that or your kidneys but until you see a dr it would be hard to tell.  I know it's expensive but sometimes they give a reduced rate if you don't have insurance.

I agree with finallyfree. Prostate exam is in order. Not being to urinate is one of the signs to an enlarged prostate. Also you could have a kidney stone or blockage. Those can go undiagniosed for they are slippery little fellows...

Not to scare you but my sister-in-law wasn't able to urniate and ignored it. She ended up in intensive care for 10 days with a very serious blood infection. She almost died the infection was so bad.

Good point.  You are so right.  Its not a good thing to have it back up and it doesn't take much to cause serious issues.
