My husband was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney disease about a year ago. His numbers hovered in the high 4's for a while until last checked in April this year at 4.88. Today we found out he is at 5.31, just three months later and he feels terrible. He refuses dialysis. I am trying to understand how quickly things will progress now that his numbers have moved that much in a couple of months. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Why is your husband refusing dialysis? It will really help him feel so much better. They have a type of dialysis called peritoneal dialysis, which you are able to do from home, yourself. This is what I do. I would recommend it to anyone. And with the creatinine...there is no way to estimate what its gonna do. Mine went from 3.0 to 6.1 in a week. If you have any questions about PD, I would be more than happy to answer them;

Yeah, I've looked into all the options and we've spoken with the doctor, but for him it's quality of life. It doesn't help that he had two people in his family that did not do well on it and only lasted a year on dialysis.

Just curious, how does he KNOW his quality of life will suffer to the point of giving up? yeah, its a life changing event BUT I certainly have not lost my quiality of life. I do dialysis everynight. Just because family didnt do well on dialysis does not mean he won't. And what about trying to get a transplant? Yeah, he will have bad days but after he has gotten used to dialysis and its schedule the bad days will turn into more and more good days until he has mostly good days with a few bad days mixed in.

I would be more than happy to talk to him about PD if he is interested.
