I have PKD and am stage 5 ESRD. I have a working fistula but am not on dialysis yet. My kidneys are very large (I look like I am pregnant). I am eligible to be put back on the transplant list in May. When I met with the surgeon, he thinks he can squeeze in a kidney without removing my old ones. Since my diseased kidneys bother me quite a bit, he said he could remove them if I wanted him to. Anyone have any experience with this? My brother had a nephrectomy prior to his transplant and is glad he did. However, he had trouble with the fluid restrictions and being adequately dialysed. The thought of leaving these giant things is really depressing. I have trouble sleeping, eating, breathing, etc. due to their size. Any input would be greatly appreciated!
