Hi: I usually hang out in the colitis forum, but ran across this info, that might be of interest.
Here is one of my posts from the UC forum.
It seems that there are kidney toxins made in the colon and liver from tryptophan metabolism and tyrosine metabolism. One way around this is probiotics, and possibly adsorbants like charcoal, high fruit and veggie diet,
and baking soda,lower protein diet.
Its all related,gut bacteria,colon disease,kidney disease.
There is a lot more I could post but this should be enough to see the relationships.
The AST-120 which is a charcoal adsorbant made in japan works in japan but not in americans or europeans,
I might suspect genetics,different diets,gut bacteria.
Since I am lucky enough to have UC and lowered eGFR this is interesting info, which I have not ran
across in the past. I have not bothered with probiotics in at least 6 months, will restart.
Might also be a good idea to look at your routine blood tests and see where the eGFR is.
Seems to me the probiotics will work better than absorbants.
