I don't have any specific info as per kidney cancer, but I did have a lung cancer scare. I had a growth show up on a ct scan and it was in a place very hard to biopsy. I was given the choice of rescan in 6 months and see if it grows or have it removed. I chose to have it removed for peace of mind and it was benign.

I understand the the thought of something growing inside you is not pleasant. Have you thought of getting a 2nd opinion?

A CT scan revealed a 1.8 x 2.5 centimeter soft tissue mass on my right kidney. Urologist says it is most likely cancer and he is not inclined to biopsy it. He recommended having part of the kidney removed. Or I could wait six months and have another scan done then. The urologist indicated this type of tumor is slow growing. I idea of waiting is not appealing in that there's a chance of cancer spread to the lungs or bones. Anyone have experience with cancer surgery?

My mother-in-law had her surgery just yesterday, with the same grim dx. Apparently, they did not have to remove as much of the kidney as expected and they also think it may not be cancerous.....so who knows until they actually get in and verify.

btw, she's doing quite well.

I had a lung growth found during a CT for my GI tract. They only found it because it was on the right lower lobe which is lower than the left side. Surgeon said I couls wait and have it checked every 3 to 6 months or just go remove it. I chose the latter as I didn't want to be wondering all the time if it was growing or not. Turned out to be benign, but I was happy to get rid of it.
