Hi upjo. I'm so sorry that you are having such a difficult time...and I know how frustrating it is when you can't get an answer.
In answer to your question-yes, it is possible for nerves to be damaged intraoperatively, but lapriscopic procedures are generally chosen to minimize that risk. I will tell you that I believe I know and understand the pain that you have been posting about.
I went into renal failure in January of 2012. I also have prior history of a total renal blockage (to date is still the worst pain I've ever experienced) years prior. There was significant damage done to my left kidney from the trauma. Ever since, I have had varying flank pain on my left side. It never completely goes away and is always at least a dull ache.
I have learned through experience that there are things that make it worse. I have to drink probably double the water that I used to because I become dehydrated more easily now. This is a big contributer to pain & it always lets me know when I need to drink more.
Anything that affects my urinary and abdominal areas can also make it worse. For example, a UTI or bladder infection...not to mention that I am also a female (enough said).
As to where you go from here...I'm not clear on if your blockage was urinary, or if you had a renal blockage corrected. If it was renal, that is considered a history of kidney disease. Regardless, since your Urologist has written off your pain, I would recommend seeing a good Nephrologist...that is where you need to be if you believe there is something wrong with your kidney's. Always go with your gut-if you know something is wrong, don't let doctors convince you it's in your head! My nephrologist has been an amazing blessing to me and has saved my life twice cleaning up other doctor's messes.
Though this is all my personal medical experience, I hope that some of this is helpful to you. Take care & best of luck!
Heidi
