I think someone is lying to me about dying from kidney problems?

He told me one day that he tried to commit suicide (through overdose) but nothing happened and he was okay. about two weeks later he tells me that it badly effected his kidneys and he had a 50/50 chance of surviving. A few days later he seemed to make it sound a lot worse that it was, saying how his certatine levels were at 8, (it should be around 1 or a healthy human right?) yet he said the doctor told him to carry on like normal and he was still going out with friends to football matches and what not. He said he had no pain and he felt quite normal. As the days went on he told me how his function rate of the kidneys were at 28% and his certatine levels went up to 11, yet he was still at home doing normal stuff, surely he would be in the hospital? also he told me he had to go for this big operation and basically made it seem like he wouldn't survive it, yet a few hours later he was messaged me saying how it all went okay but he died for like 3 minutes during it. What makes me think he's lying is that he never told any of friends except me and told me not to tell anyone, also a day after he was supposed to have had this operation, he friend posted a picture of then together on the beach on that day, obviously he wouldn't have recovered that fast for an operation of that extent?
It's just that everything he said seemed completely fabricated and he literally made it out as if he was dying, yet he was out drinking and going to football matches. Surely if it was as bad as he made it out to be he would've been in hospital?
