newbie, but from lyme forum

Hello, I will need to learn about my kidneys, as in what to look for in the begining of kidney issues and what else it could be (i have autoimmune stuff, but lyme seems to be cured).

I will add details later (need to review my older tests).

my info:

1) What ever test in the CMP (regular blood panel) that can show up as dehydrated - i test high in even after drinking enough water.
2)My lower legs can get edema swelling around the sock line (im athletic and lean, too).
3)Gamma Globulin and be low end of normal
4)Beta Globulin is low (under value a little)

Lab/Dr note says #4 can be:
1) kidneys,
2)coagulation issues (I have bad genes for that per testing)
3)malutritian (LOL muscular)but ........I recently did deely detailed food testing and eliminated some foods
4)other etiologies (well thats pretty open!)

This was a blood Dr (Hemo) that tested this, my reg GP's are cluless.
Never seen a kidney Dr.

What other tests can a GP order that you would suggest to narrow this down (assuming youve gone thru this).

I think i will do eGFR.

I look on this site from time to time, astroman, and saw your post. Since you don't have a response, I can throw it what I've experienced with kidney situation.

In your CMP, it should show you your creatinine level and eGFR, which gives an indication how your kidneys are functioning. Also, with the low globulin and bottom normal, your albumin could tell you something if it is low. Also, all electrolytes.

If your creatinine is good, your GFR probably is. I have never understood why doctors don't order both at same time to give more information. But my guess is it was good as it relates so much to creatinine.

BUN can change based on hydration, medicines and other issues. For instance, I take Bicilliin (not as often now because of kidneys), and it can raise BUN, as it did last test. My creatinine went down (good) but BUN went up. It was two days after Bicillin shot.
