hormone replacements

All I can tell you is that within the past 3 months my gyno wanted to put me on hormone replacement therapy. I thought my rhuemy was going to have a stroke when I told her. She informed me that hormone therapy can cause a lupus patient to go into a severe flare. She also said that normally if a gyno wants to put a lupus patient on hormones the gyno and the rhuemy consult each other as to the dosage.

Hormone replacement therapy is a real controversial subject. I had my uterus and ovaries removed about eight years ago and was put on natural compounded estrogen (tri-est) and it has done wonders for me in many ways. It also helps prevent osteoporosis. I was diagnosed with lupus a couple of years ago and have been in a pretty bad flare for three years and none of the doctors that I've seen want me to stop taking it. I've seen three of the top rheumatologists in the large metropolitan city where I live. I've also consulted with my PCP. So I've been on HRP for eight years and have had lupus for 3. I don't believe there is a connection in my case. Don't you wish medicine were a more precise science.
