How's this for cold!!!!!

Hey all you lucky ducks in the warm climates, palm trees, green grass - up here in Calgary, Alberta, we have hit the coldest temperatures EVER.  With the windchill - now get ready for this..... It's -50 celcius, which translates into -58 Farenheit!  I had to do the conversion on the internet because I've never seen temperatures like this before!!  It is freakin' freezing out right now. It was like this yesterday too, and will be like this ALL WEEK.  It's brutal!!! 

 

So if you're basking in the sun  scool  , enjoying a bellini and wondering, "should I apply more sunscreen?".  Don't forget about us!!!  Send us your warm winds!!!! Hehehe......I guess this is payback for all the crap we sent the eastern states last month.....

Whao! and I can't handle it when it's 30 outside. I'd hate to see your heating bill. LOL I'm like ou I would have to do the conversion table too. I never could figure that out. Only mine is the opposite of you'rs. A friend of mine has to have infusions that last for about 3 hours. They put her in this suit that is attached to somthing like an old fashion hair dryer hose. it blows warm air into it. Sounds like it's just the ticket you need. Well you better keep checking in with us or we'llbe wondering if you turned into a popcycle or not. scool in case you needed a pair I thought I'd send ya some sunglasses. It's snowing here but nothing serious.

hi ginny,

I am in Saskatchewan so I can relate it's that temperature here at least 3 months of the year. It was about 12 degrees colder then that this morning at 4:00 am but has warmed up to a balmy -36 today.. the average wait for a taxi cab this morning was 2.5 hours.

HA glad I am on holidays starting tomorrow

Oh man... You know what though.  I think dealing with this cold is way easier than dealing with a +40 heat wave.  At least I don't feel like continually puking and sweating when it's like this!  Hahahaha, that's a true Canadian for ya, eh?

 

Ya, the wait for a tow truck here is 10 hours.  GOOD LUCK!!!  Do you have Raynauds?  That is the only issue for me right now, is keeping those digits nice and warm.  Not easy!

 

Well, we'll be sending you guys more of this all week.  It "warms up" to -11 on Friday.  Drag out the lawn chairs!!!!  Woo hoo!!

 

Carol, that dryer suit sounds perfect!! I'll take two!  Hee.... Ya, the sunglasses are needed actually.  The glare off the snow is crazy.  You stay warm too!!

OK Ginny . . . I guess we sent our cold up to you!!! We were 48 at some point today!! We had the cold temps up until yesterday!!! Not sure how low but single digits w/o the wind chill for sure. I'll send you some of our 40's soon!! Blessings!

All I can say is Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.  I'm in the Midwest here and today it reached a high of 73 degrees midday (record breaker) and then things crashed downward.  Dropped 60 degrees here in a matter of about 2 hours this afternoon with winds now gusting up to 60 mph.  But, after reading your post, I think I will take this over what you got any day.  I did read right and you are saying negative 58 fahrenheit (minus 58) as the temp right?  OMG.  What are your heating bills like.  I'll send you some of our balmy 16 degrees.

Okay, so now is where I can appropriately throw in this factoid! My brother was in a Navy submarine that came up under the North Pole. He dressed in his swim trunks and took a lawn chair outside and sat in it. I have a black & white photo of this -- even in black & white you can see that his toes are curled from the cold and he couldn't straighten them even if he tried!

Hahaha, Lynnwood, I'd love to see that photo!  It was probably close to the temperatures we're getting down here!  That's insane. Your brother sounds like he enjoys pain!!  

 

Apparently, someone called into the country music radio station today saying that they just witnessed some moron walking downtown with shorts on...... LOSER!  He probably thought he was being really cool....

 

Yes, Ocean, you read that correctly.  -58 Farenheit.  I did the conversion on the internet.  I can only convert celcius to farenheit to a certain point, then it's a guessing game!!! We'll see what the heating bill is like in a week or so.  I think it comes at the end of each month.  Should be interesting!  Yes, I'll take your 16 degrees gratefully, thank you!!!

 

Rosie, some of your 40's would be sublime right now!!!  Time for more hot tea......

I'm here in Wisconsin-the temp outside is about 7 right now.  Winds are blowing and it's snowing.  I also just stood outside for about 2 hours on a fire call to a residence.  Oh, and I spent sometime on the roof of the house.  I've been home for about an hour now and my toes are starting to thaw.  They feel really warm and I can feel my heartbeat in them.  What a night to have a fire.  I feel terrible for them!  I'm just glad I'm in a nice warm house right now.  I can't wait for warmer weather ahead!

OK we went from near 50 yesterday to wind chill below 0 this morning. High winds and frequent, short, power outs . . . thanks Ginny . . . I think the Shanook (sp?) winds came by our place. Corn bags are in heavy use!! Blessings!

Oh dear!!!!  So now the entire continent is on cold weather alert!!!  YIKES.  Well, if this is any consolation, we are getting a "Chinook" this weekend.  So, with any luck, those warm westerlies will warm everyone up!  Rosie, Chinook winds are a good thing!  WARM winds.  The Alberta Clippers are what you DON'T want me to tell you are coming your way!!!

Duhhhh!! Yuppers . . . thanks for the lesson Ginny . . . I remember now. Chinook (thanks for the spelling) is the lovely, balmy, warm air that comes thru in the very early spring. LOVE IT! YES! The Alberta clipper!! LOL . . . I'm such a nut. Thanks for the tea. I hope you are warming up a bit. Our car just would not heat up in that last cold snap. The trick was . . . let it idle in the driveway . . . heats up WAY faster than while driving. So much for global warming!! Blessings!

Hey Ginny! Yes, I am a firefighter. I've been on the department for almost 2 years now. When I was hired I knew that I may have Lupus, but I was fine for about 2 years, then I started to have a flare. It's a great job, but I find myself being picky about going to calls. I have to be feeling pretty good to even consider going.

Firebabe, how do you do it?!  That is an amazingly physical job.  You must be super strong!!!  I am totally impressed.  Good on you!

 

Hahaha, Redrose.  I know you guys have it cold too.  And you have WAY more snow to deal with than we do. So I think we're even! Winter sucks everywhere!!!

Hi Ginny,

    I agree with Ocean on...Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!! In the south we have it pretty good I guess. It sometimes gets in the teens but, as long as I'm inside its okay. I think I would hybernate in your neck of the woods. Just looking at the -58 makes me hurt and shiver! Wrap up and stay warm. Take care.

suetoo....here is a bottle of 80 degee wather. Here on the coast of Virginia we broke a record. Made it all the way to the 80's this week.

hey guys, im down here in the southeast alabama, enjoyed a afternoon at the lake with my kids today, it was a lill windy but in the 70s. i know this may sound crazy, i would love to see some snow. sheshe

Lynnwood, I love your story about your brother. When was he on a sub, and which one? My son was on the USS Santa Fe out of Pearl Harbour for a few years, but didn't make it up to the North Pole. My other son went swimming in the Volga River barefoot in swim trunks on New Year's Day.

I enjoy the cold but not the COOOOOLD!

He was the nuclear officer on a sub out of San Diego from '85-'88 or so, and was at the pole on his 25th (June) birthday. I don't recall which boat. Too cold for me!
