tonsels

hey everyone i am curious about something,when i was in grade school i was always sick with tosilities, high fevers and trouble gaining weight, i also was anemic alot. i eventualy had tonsils removed and my health inproved. it wasnt untill around 5 yrs ago that i started having my other health problems im 41 now. could it have been lupus thenand did anyone else have problems with there tonsils.        sheshe

Yes, I did.  Right from being a very small child, I had constant strep throat.  I was almost never without having it.  When I was 8, they finally took out my tonsills.  I seemed to be a much healthier child after that, but when I was about 13, I started having problems with my knees, and my jaw.  I had TMJ, which is now linked very closely with Fibromyalgia. My periods have always, right from day one, been a nightmare to deal with.  Hormones do play a roll in lupus. 

 

Looking back to my early childhood and early teen years, we really see where my health issues started.  I was really young.  Things didn't get out of control until I was into my 20's.  But I do believe very much, that my strep throat as a toddler, and youngster, predisposed me to lupus.  I might have had all the other triggers and genetics to make me have lupus, no matter what had been done to me to make me well.  I probably have had lupus most of my life, but didn't know it and didn't see the symptoms as a problem until they became a very big problem.

((((((((sheshe))))))))) So sorry you are having such a hard time. I hate to bring up a difficult topic, but the hormone pills you are taking *might* be part of your problem. They are a controversial topic for lupans. Some of us are negatively affected although there was one member who said they helped her. Just a thought, in case there is any room for adjustment of the dose or type of hormones. I really don't know much about this topic, but your rheumy may be interested in this aspect of your meds. redrose, my family seems the same way, they dont want to talk about lupus at all with me its realy hurts my feelings .but i just keep it to myself and leave them alone about it . when i go to the doc its by myself. he has not been helping me much, i think maybe i need a different doc. he just doesnt seem like he is listeng to me. why is it that women seem to have a harder time with docs than men. the first thing they uasualy ask a women is are you depressed sheshe

I too had strep throat and tonsilitis from the time I was 12 until I had them out when I was 16. I would have a case of tonsilitis nearly every month.

I always wondered if having my tonsils out somehow messed up my immune system.

hi everyone its interesting how many of us have had problems with our tonsels as children, it makes me wonder also if its related to lupus as adults, happy valentines to everyone. sheshe

You know what's interesting? My sister and I, she is 15 months older than me, shared a room all of our lives. My sister had chronic strept throat and I never got it. The doctor said I had been exposed so much that I had probably built up an immunity to it. When I was 27 I was working at a youth camp and caught strept throat. That is when I went into kidney failure and my troubles began. I also had to have my left thyroid gland removed due to a large tumor when i was 22, and my gall bladder removed at 25! My brother has Crohn's /colitis, I have lupus and my sister is healthy!

Anything is possible, however remember that this is not a controlled statistical sample of all possibilities -- this is a subset of (all humans) * (all with lupus) * (all w/tonsils) == so it's far, far, far from saying most people w/lupus have tonsil trouble. I DO NOT have tonsil problems, nor have I ever had. And NO relatives of mine have ever had an lupus or auto-immune problems.
