Lupus and sore throat?

Its me again, I am sorry to be asking so many questions, I am just so sick right now.

My rheumy gave me the script for prednisone, but told me to wait a few days to make sure this isn't viral flu.

Well how do I know?

Started wed with aches, chill feeling, temp of 100.2 mild sore throat

sore throat pretty severe thursday am, but body aches less

Woke this am at 3 with severe body aches, feeling like my muscles are tearing sort of, temp of 100.2, pretty bad sore throat. Some lymph enlargement throughout my body.

No runny nose, no sneezing, no cough, no chest congestion, no headache.

How in the world am i supposed to tell what is going on?

I should probably call my rheumy again, I know.

Does anyone get sore throats with lupus flare?

I'm so sorry you are feeling so bad. It does sound like the flu. It seems to be going around. I don't know what you are on right now, but could you take some TheraFlu or something like that? Are you taking anything for muscle pain (if not you might want to ask your rheumfy for something)? I get sore throats pretty often and have good luck with Cepacol throat spray. If your temp keeps rising though, you might have Strep and want to get a Strep test. I have joked with my family, when the flu was going through the house, that I feel like I have the flu all the time, so it's hard to tell the difference. Also, I have Lyme along with the lupus, so what do I attribute to what?!? I understand perfectly. I once had a very elderly, very healthy boss who swore by hot tea, honey and whisky . . . but that also depends on what meds you are on! LOL Hang in there!

Thank you harmony, I am trying to hang in there!

I am just so confused. if this is the flu, I have never had a flu without coughing, or SOME kind of upper respiratory symptom. And if its lupus, I wondered if it could cause your throat to hurt off and on.

My throat hurts severe at night and in the am....then is better for most of the day, then painful at night again.

The body aches are off the chart.

One thing I was doing, prior to getting sick, was drinking echinacea tea. I was drinking the immune booster tea by yogi. I guess that is a no no from what my rheumy says.

I just wonder how in the heck they ever determine what is wrong with you? sigh

I know your frustration. It's like you need a medical degree to deal with lupus! Hang in there. God Bless you, Judy

LOL exactly! A medical degree would be great! Either that...or could I just have Dr. House live next door? After all isn't his motto...Its never lupus?

I spent 2 years having a strep test done once a month because my throat was so bad. When I was able to be on evoxac my sore throats were rare. Now it is constantly sore again.

Hi Darlene, well other than your temp not being as high as mine was it sounds just like a flare to me. right up and including 3 am temps, chills. everything hurt including my throat and my glands.

I know how you feel Darlene. I've started having those symptoms last night. I've been going rounds with this for almost two months. My Dr the first time with out doing swap looked at my thoart and said it was red so she thought that I had strip. A week ago my b/f came home sick but he was coughing and running fever. He stayed in bed most of that night and all the next day. I ened up with something but he said he never got the sore thoart and my fever was higher.

Last week I was fine except got yeast infection from Antibatics. I've started getting lots of yeast infections with Ampicillin.

I have not been told I have Lupus but that I have Fibro. But being sick this much is making me wonder again.

Darlene, I;m just checking in to see how you are doing. Hopefully what you had is the flu and that you are recovering. I get so frustrated when things like that happen to me because I also have such a hard time telling if it is the flu or a flare or if the flu is causing a flare. I hope you are feeling at least a little better. ((((Hugs))))

I want to cry as I just lost my whole post lol.

But what I said was... Thank you Hippi for checking on me. The rheumy that was on call in my rheumy's practice is the one that finally helped me to distinguish what was going on...and that was a flare due to a virus. So...like you said, I was in a flare AND had some incredible ick virus...anyones guess as to which was making me feel worse, but the combination made me really really sick.

He also told me, if in doubt, take the pred. I was concerned that it would quiet my immune system and if I had a virus i would get sicker... he said that it really wasn't a concern. So that was a good thing.

So now I am in recovery mode...and all the while garbage and dishes and dust and laundry pile up around me. How's a girl supposed to be sick in a messy house? lol

Thank you again for checking on me Hippi.. I sure missed you when I wasn't able to check in!

I always have those symptoms and do NOT have the flu. I actually think that its not the flu. You described exactly how I am right now actually.

I never hear anyone say anything about a sore throat but thats a huge problem for me

Hi SFnative, I don't think I have welcomed you to the group. I did see a couple of posts from you so I thought I'd just jump on here and say hi. I have been suffering from sore throats a lot lately myself. I hope your doctor can do somthing to help you out.

Darlene how are you doing? has the predisone started helping you yet? sorry didn't mean to hijack your post.

Hi and welcome, i am new to this also. I have a sore throat continually. It is sometimes accompanied by ear aches and headaches, but most of the time just a sore throat. It is so bad sometimes, it feels like razors in the back of my throat. Cough drops and chloraseptic seem to help a bit. Hope this helps. If you find anything else out post it if you can. Thanks and good luck. By the way, I do have sjrogrens which could be a part of the problem. You may want to check with your rheumy about that. I take numoisn lozenges up to 15/day, really helps, but need a rx. God bless, Karen
