I talked with Barbara around 6 pm today -- she has IV fluids going plus a 'pump' for pain medications on demand. They did the endoscopy and found food in her stomach -- a big surprise as she hadn't eaten for over 24 hours. Once they pushed the food aside they took several samples and are off testing for things. Meanwhile she is feeling a mite better with pain meds, IV fluids, and is only allowed the 'clear food' diet -- lemon jello when I talked to her... We're guessing they're waiting to see how long it takes for the food to clear the system or something.....although I bet in that hospital if they don't do anything tomorrow (Fri) they'll wait till Monday.....

    I'm glad they finally got things rolling! No wonder she is so sick if the food is not passing through the stomach as it should.

Barb, Bless your heart sweetie! I'm glad to hear your getting IV fluids and pain meds now for relief....(((Gentle Hugs))). Hopefully with the biopsies they will have the answers they need to help you. Take care, thinking of you and sending prayers your way.

 I just called Barb a few minutes ago. She was very tired and frustrated. They will be taking away the IV fluids and IV pain meds this afternoon and possibly send her home. They think the stomach problems stem from her Gastropresis(sp) issues. I hope they will do more testing before sending her home just to be sure.

Barb my friend, My heart aches for you! I know you are miserable and so tired of all this stuff....(((Gentle Hugs))). I wish there was something I could do for you. Take care and know that you are loved and admired.

Maybe they know they won't do anything this weekend and are letting her be more comfortable at home??? Crazy care up there!

Hi Everyone:

First off thanks for all your posts, well wishes, thoughts, and prayers. Well I'm home from the hospital. According to my GI doctor my gastroparesis is causing me difficulty. When I eat food on a daily basis it begins to back up in my stomach. My stomach empties food very slowly. There isn't anything that can be done to make my stomach to empty sooner, other than trying a surgery and putting in a gastric pacemaker. The down side to the surgery is gastric pacemaker don't work real well on patients with autoimmune disorders. So our plan is when I start to feel like my stomach is aching and hurting, I'm to swap to a clear liquid diet, until my pain stops and I once again feel better. We'll see how this goes, and I'll talk to my regular GP on the 7th.

Barb, I wish there was more they could have done for you. It sounds like the pain pump helped some while you were in the hospital and I hope they had some ideas on how to keep you more comfortable at home. Lots of love and hugs

Some homemade chicken soup for you sis!! Lots of broth and lots of rest. I really feel for you Barb . . . such a bad spot to be in. I would hope that you could maybe try Ensure and Instant Breakfast for a while to get more nutrition than clear liquids . . . but you've got to do what works. Bananas might go through faster too. *sighhhhhhhhhh* Such a difficult time. I hope you have some good books or other "recliner sports" to help pass the time. If you aren't using a headset with your phone, you might want to ask family to pick one up for you. Really rests a fragile wrist/arm and allows you to rest better while you are talking on the phone. Most home phones do have a little port for the headset. Hugs, prayers and . . . Blessings!

So good to hear you are home. GI issues are so awful. Like we need that too. Right now, liquids sound good to me because I'm not digesting food again and then having incontinence on top of it. I will pray for you and hope you can find some good jello and other clear stuff and that they can find a way to resolve this issue for you. (((hugs)))
