What to use on a rash?

I have tried my best to stay out of the sun and stay covered up, but I have been out in the sun for a few minutes here and there and I have ended up with a really bad rash on my arms from it.  The rash on my one arm is really raised and red and angry and it itches really bad.  I was just wondering if anyone has found anything (non prescript ion) that helps the rash at least not itch so much.  We have some Gold Bond cream at home that I have put on, but it only helps a little.  Thanks for any ideas.

What about good old Calamine lotion? An oldie, but a goodie!  Sorry this rash is so awful Hippi.

Hippie, I have a rx strength cortisone cream that doesn't even get rid of that dread itch. Covering it (like gauze and tape) seems to help more than anything. Covering helps keep the air from sending the sensations to the nerve endings. Washing with soap and a cloth helps too. It's very flustering, isn't it?? Sorry you are dealing with this too. I actually got poison ivy recently. I know it isn't the lupus rash because it is on my wrist instead of the back of my hand. Probably one of the dogs somehow brought it in. Blessings!

Hi Hippie,

I remember you saying that you were burnt a bit bad the other weekend by your son's baseball games. When I am exposed to sun time and time again, if I go out for a few minutes I get the same thing. Oh it hurts. I find that taking Claritin and Pepcid AC helps with the anti-histamine response. Problem is the Claritin or allergy meds can make you more sun sensitive like the prednisone.

For the rash I found a stuff called Foille, made by Blistex. You can have the Pharmacy special order it for you. It is awesome for burns, natural stuff, and it calms the anger down, rids of blisters and clears up burns asap. The hospitals in Florida use it all the time. I also first tend to put the Benadryl clear on at night to help with the itch as it helps me sleep. The Foille is not expensive, and will also take the burn down right away. Its on the Blistex website to help you locate who carries it or most pharmacies have to special order it :)

It also helps my Lupus rash on the face. yeah

Thanks everyone. I thought about taking some benadryl to see if that helps. I would think it would be getting better, but it's not. I've had a super busy week though - my sister in law asked me to take her two kids for the week, so I've been taking them to the pool and the park and even though I stay out of the sun for the most part, I end up being in it for a few minutes walking to and from the car. I think it's that accumulated exposure that Rosie and Leta talked about . I might try Rosie's method of covering it with guaze. I've had some rashes from the sun before, but never this bad. Some spots are so raised and red that it looks like I have welts.

Yes Hippie . . . mine gets like poison ivy. Yoweeee. I hope the benadryl helps. I would think, though, that the prednisone would have helped . . . OH NO! You've got a doozie week with extra kids. Makes sure to give them assignments!! If you wright them each a list, they'll get busy checking off their stuff. Boys respond especially well to lists (better than talking at them). No park, no pool until all lists are done . . . . they'll find it a big game and dash around to get things done. I hope your weekend goes well sis. Blessings!
