Pulmonary Embolism

MJD, Geez you went through alot this month. I was 18 when I had a embolism 2 days after an opration, I was in so much pain and couldn't breath thank god I was still in the hospital. I spent 1 month in there. I was also on heparin iv, started coumadin after I got out of the hospital, but not for life. Before an opration I have to get a shot of lovenox. You sound good after what you went through. I'm happy to hear about your book, you have being working on that for awhile. Let us know the title of your book. Congradulation!!!!! Debbie

Judy, you've been through so much.  I can absolutely relate to how scary that all must have been.  I'm on life long coumadin too. I sure feel better when I'm theraputic!  It makes a big difference to how you actually feel physically, to have your blood at the right consistancy.  If you have any questions about coumadin, just ask me.  I have a lot of experience with it, and hopefully I can be of help to you.

It's advised to get your INR done early enough in the day for your doctor to receive the results and call you before their office closes.  Many people ask their doctors for a STAT requisision to take in to the lab every time.  That way, you're guaranteed to get your results back same day.  It doesn't help you one bit to get the results back the next day because you have to take a dose before bed.  You need to know if your dose needs a change or not. 

 

So taking your coumadin with your bedtime meds is the best way to go. 

 

Here in Canada, a stat test can be entered into the computer system so you don't need a piece of paper every time you go in.  If you need a paper every time, just make a wack of copies of the original!

(((((((((((( Judy ))))))))))))) OH . . . I bet you were scared! I'm so glad they figured it out and got your blood thinned. Sorry you missed your dialysis. I bet its difficult waiting to have this done. Are you feeling whipped? I hope your first dialysis goes well. When are you scheduled?? Congrats on your book!! I think you can name it. You just can't advertise it with a link or a message to email you. Blessings!

MJD, I was trying to find out how to get your e-mail address I'm really not good with computers. So now I know the title of your book I'll be looking for it. Tomorrow I have to go to the hospital for a sleep study test which I think will be a waist. So I will be bringing a book to read, It will relax me a little better since I do like to read when I 'm not flareing and in a fog. Good Luck with your book. Debbie

Sorry to hear you are having so much pain, I think I know what you are going through. I too have high anticoagulant antibodies and am on Coumadin for the rest of my life. It is scarry the first time (and hopefully the last) you go through the pulmonary embolism. I had one, it will be 2 years this August. Thought I was having a heart attack. I smoked most of my adult life but quit 7 years ago, thank goodness, so I could only think the worst when all this pain and shortness of breath presented itself rather suddenly. The embolism developed into pleurisy, I had an amniocentesis. Then a few months afterwards I had a TIA and that is when I took the Coumadin Therapy very seriously. I have a very good vascular surgeon who pulled me out 2 x's in the last year. I had a stent put in the subclavian artery and had a bypass to the arterial blood supply to the intestine which the time before the surgery I had lost 52#'s and had constant diarhea for 5 months straight, I came close to losing the intestines. Went to 4 Gastro. Drs and not one diagnosed the problem, but the v. surgeon did a doppler and knew right away what was happening. He is doing a Renal Doppler on me at the end of the month. Please keep us informed of your progress. I also have Diabetes which further more adds to the complications.

If it were listed there, you could actually include a link in your signature to direct people to it. It sounds like a winner! Let us know when they schedule your dialysis sis.
