Hi Jewel, I saw your post in another topic and wanted to start a new one for you so more people could see it and welcome you. jewel11 said... My doctor is pretty sure I have Lupus, but I do not have a definite diagnosis.  I've been having joint pain (mostly tendonitis or bursitis) off and on for about 12 years.  Lately I've been having the same problem that you stated.  I wake up in the middle of the night with severe wrist pain that radiates up the lower part of my arm and my hands are numb and so stiff that I can't make a fist.  I sometimes wake up with both arms completely numb and I can't even move my arms.  I was wondering if this is caused by inflammation of tendons or some type of nerve problem.  Any suggestions to prevent this? Welcome to the forum.  Sorry to hear that you're suffering so much with this unknown issue.  I'm dealing with some sort of tendon, ligament thing with my feet right now. I also have bicep tendonitis in my right shoulder.  It's weird.  It all came on so suddenly.  I've only been dealing with all this for about 8 months now.  I wish I had some insight to share with you.  I'm perplexed myself!

 

I did have an EMG done.  It's a test that measures if there is any nerve damage going on.  You might want to schedule one of those.  My results came back normal (figures).

 

Your question, if it's inflammation, or nerve problems - it could be both, one or the other, or neither!  I think more investigating and testing is required.  It's frustrating isn't it.
