I just heard our member & friend Julia Hill is having a very bad time of things right now. I don't feel comfortable sharing much, as I don't have her permission, but... Julia's husband is fighting for life -- Julia's Lupus and her Crohns are both in huge flares. (She usually posts in Crohns.) Please do what you can within the tenants of your own personal spiritual belief. Thanks,

Lynnwood, I hope our prayers will be answered and that they can find some solace in their spiritual beliefs. My heart goes out to them. Many prayers will go up especially for them.

Hi Everyone:

I just spoke with Julia on the phone and she gave me permission to tell whats happening. Her husband Steve is a truck driver of an 18 wheeler. On the night of the 7th of August, two boys in a car ran a stop light and plowed into Steve's rig. The boys were killed instantly, Steve was air lifted to the trauma center.

Steve has a broken neck, collapsed lung, pneumonia from the vent, and two brain bleeds. Steve has been in a coma since the 7th. Julia and her two kids, her daughter and son are taking turns at being by Steve's beside. Julia said that Steve has been moving his arms and legs. That they have been tube feeding him and he had a small bowel movement. Yesterday, Steve opened one eye, he did it on his own, and they couldn't get him to open the eye upon command. However, it's still a positive sign that he's opened one eye. Julia did say that he had a tough night though, he's got a gauge in his brain that tells how much pressure he has on the brain. They were having a hard time getting his pressures in the safe zone. The doctors won't give any predictions as to how Steve will do. It's just a matter of waiting and seeing what happens.

Julia is totally worn out. Her lupus and crohns is flaring up and she's not getting to much sleep. She increased the amount of prednisone she's taking and hoping that holds her from having a raging flare. She said that she appreciates all the thoughts, prayers, and energy. I'll be talking to Julia every other day and I'll give updates. So please keep Steve and Julia and the kids in your prayers. They really need them.

Oh my God, I will keep her family in my prayers and light a candle for her. That is so sad but with everyone on this site praying for them and then making a prayer circle -- I'm sure God will get them through this somehow. I can't imagine going through something like that but prayers are amazing and very powerful. Hang in there....... there is so much love on this site that I'm sure a miracle will happen......

Oh no..... That is tragic.  We're praying for you Julia and for Steve.  I pray that the improvements in Steve continue to come.  Julia, sweetie, take good care of yourself.

Evening All:

I just talked with Julia and she said that Steve is holding his own. They've decided to start to try to wake Steve up. He's been pretty sedated and they figure now is a good time to let him awaken. He's still not responding to commands but they said since he's so sedated that could be affecting things. Last night they took out the pressure/drain tube out of his brain. The also removed one of the IV lines that was being used to cool Steve, they are now giving him Tylenol. His chest x-ray looked better, he still has 5 days of antibiotics to take but it looks like the pneumonia is clearing up. Steve is still being tube fed and they had to give him something, but he managed to have another small BM yesterday. A really good sign is that he's making plenty of urine. Overall, the report was good on him. Julia is taking it one day at a time.

Julia sounded very tired, which I'm sure she is. Because of her Crohn's disease it really affects her in the morning so she is kinda tied to the toliet. Once her medications kick in she's able to go to the hospital. Julia and her two kids, have breakfast at home in the morning, and eat dinner at home. Then Julia returns to the hospital for the remainder of the evening. They have shift change between 7pm and 8:30pm and no family members are allowed in the ICU during that time anyway. So they come home and have dinner.

The kids are handling things as well as can be expected. Steve's company is handling the financial paperwork so that Julia will continue to receive money. Julia is having some issues with her prednisone, she upped it to 20mg daily but she's not feeling any better. She was wondering what she should do since her adrenal glands are working so poorly. She wanted me to say that she appreciates and the prayers and concern for her and Steve. She said to tell you she's taking it one day at a time, and she's still has plenty of hope that things will turn out well.

Julia, you're in my prayers and thoughts as always. Keep hanging in there my friend, we all love you here and we are all pulling for you and Steve. Try to get some rest and remember that you need your rest too. If you're all worn out, you won't be much help to Steve when he wakes up. I noticed in the post on the Crohn's forum that someone mentioned that you should let the ICU staff and the doctors caring for Steve, know that you have crohns and lupus. I throughly agree with them, they could keep and extra eye on you too. I'll call you again on Wednesday, get some rest my friend.

Hi Everyone,

I want to thank you all for your prayers and good thoughts, I really do appreciate it. It is nice to know that I have such a wonderful support team that truly understands. My husband has started to periodically open his eyes, blink and yawn. He still isn't responding to commands, but he is breathing better on his own with the trec. in his neck on 30% oxygen. We were at 50%, so this is an improvement. They say that when he is breathing on his own they will move him to the Neuro unit even if he isn't awake yet. I find that scary since he still needs suctioning done from the breathing tube. The nurse ratio in the acute care section is 1 to 3 and in the other section it is 1 to 8 patients. I could handle the 1-3 but not the 1-8 at this point. My crohn's is settling down some with the prednisone, I only hope my lupus doesn't flare. I am tired, but I am trying to get more rest.    (((Hugs))) to you and your family. I pray Steve continues to improve with each passing day and that you get the relief from the pred you need. Hang in there sweetie and try to rest as much as you can. Your whole family are in my thoughts and prayers.
