Anyone know a non pill way to get rid of sinus headache?

Ice and/or heat -- the standard 20 minutes of ice, 20 minutes of nothing, 20 minutes of heat -- sometimes helps me with sinus headache -- I know that's not the same as sinusitis but maybe can be adapted to help? Sounds miserable and I hope you get some relief soon.

Thanks so much Lynnwood and Lucy! Lynnwood, I didn't think of doing the hot nothing cold thing like for my back. Thanks so much for that. I've tried the steam, but as you know down here, the humidity is not much of a problem. I want to try that xlear. My mom swears by it.

I do the Hot as I can get a wet washcloth thing and keep getting a new one over and over. Then I drink a cup of hot tea, as hot as I can get it. If that doesn't help, I go to a chinese restaurant and get a spring roll and dip it in more mustard sauce than I can stand and eat it. It that doesn't do it for me, nothing will.

I've also put a pan of water on the stove and put a little (brain fog: what is that stuff you put on a child's chest when they have a cold?) in it, and sometimes half a grapefruit. Then I lay a large towel over my head and let the steam from the pan go up in my nose and mouth.

After I do all of that, I've found that drinking hot tea all day really helps.

I have to be careful not to overuse Afrin, but that's usually the first thing I use. When I get a sinus headache, I usually wake up with it. And the Afrin is the first thing I do. Pain pills do nothing to help me.

Hope you get rid of your headache. I hate those things.

I find that covering the steamer with a towel with my head inside the towel concentrates the steam-sitting like that-or just moving the steamer into the bathroom shutting the door and sitting there for twenty minutes helps.
Guefenesen helps me.
Then chew something very chewy like a tootsie roll helps.

Thanks, yeah pain med does really nothing for it. I need to do the irrigation thing I've been doing the tea, the steam not so much. The wet wash cloth is my thing too right away when I get up. I have a bunch of fish tanks and its been raining every day. You'd think there'd be enough humidity, but it's just that chronic dryness like I don't sweat and my eyes. The idea of flushing my sinuses sounds like a good one. I have to go to the drug store tomorrow, so I can pick something up until I can get into a bigger town this weekend and get what I want. Thanks for all your tips. I can get that hot mustard, I used to have some wasabi, which is just really hot. With my throat having thrush, I'm afraid to drink too much hot stuff, even the tea because the medicine--nystatin liquid, coats the throat and I don't want to wash it off or anything. It's a mess. I think the sinuses got real bad from the nystatin or the thrush, but it started after being on the nystatin. Thanks again, you are all lifesavers and I hope you are all doing well as can be.

I know you don't want to take any meds, but my doc recommends advil synus. Actually, she has a protocol which goes something like this: Afrin; sinus flush; advil sinus. I don't remember the order or what else, but that's what I do plus the hot washcloths and hot tea. Sorry you have other problems that prevent the hot tea. Advil sinus really helps if you're willing to take an over-the-counter pill.
