Question about ultram

I told my pcp that I have been battleing my family about taking narcotic pain killers. She said Do they know what's wrong with you? I said yes. She got mad. I said they want somthing in writing that says it's ok for me to be taking them the way I do and she said "My perscription should be good enough!". Anyway she said she would put me on ultram. She wrote it for 2/50ml. every 4 hours. so she wrote a script for 240 of them. which is 400ml. a day. I read on the internet that you should never take more then 300mg. a day. cry I don't even know what to do any more. Does anyone take that or generic for it is tramadol. how much do you take? does it help?

I really am at a loss.

Hi Carol,

My PCP also has me on Tramadol, I've been on it about 5 months My prescription says Take 2 as needed 4 times a day they are 50 mg. each, I usually just take 1, 3 Xday. It really helps my fatigue and makes the pain bearable and it doesn't make me drowsy or feel weird like other pain meds I've tried. I'm really pleased with it I hope it helps you.

i take the tramadol also. 50mg, mines for every 4 hrs as needed. the dr said that i could take up to 3 at a time if i feelits not working. i like it ok, it doenst make me feel all weird or loopy like vicodin did. i ahd asked for something that wouldnt. but so far i like it.

Carol, I'm frustrated for you about your family questioning your pain meds. Maybe they can accompany you to a doctor's appointment. I take tramadol and I usually take 2 pills 3 times a day (300mg) but was told I could take it up to 4 times a day (400mg) if needed. It works okay for mild to moderate pain, but it doesn't touch the severe stuff for me. I've been on it for about 3 years now and haven't had trouble with it and I'm sure I have probably built up a tollerance for it. I'm worried about your pain level if you don't have your stronger pain meds.

I have also taken the Tramadol upto 4 3 times a day...they didnt seem to help...I still have a bunch! Good Luck

Carol, I take ultram extended relief once a day. I take it when I go to bed and it lasts just about 24 hours. What I like the most about it is that when I wake up in the morning (which is the hardest time for me and I suspect most of us) it's already in my system. That makes it much easier for me to get up and around in the morning.

Like Hippi, it doesn't work for the severe stuff, but it does cut the edge a little. For every day pain, it's helping quite a bit. I don't have to remember to take the Tramadol every four to six hours, etc. And I'd rather tolerate the pain that I do have than risk becoming addicted to stronger pain relievers, which I know would be so easy for me to do.

I am allergic to ultram. My sister took it for her fibromyalgia starting about 12 years ago. I think that the main thing is....it is addictive like any drug, alcohol, whether it be benzos or cigs or painkillers or whatever they are (I have heard they are non narcotic?) if you are addiction prone........just be very careful. I am weaning off of clonazepam......a benzo. Its worse than the painkillers tho in my opinion. or maybe my symptoms are just worse lately. It becomes a slippery slope. Just tell your family that you and your DR made this decision. MYOB. tell them mind their own business!!!!!!!

advair 50/500, albuterol, clonazepam .5 mg 3x day, levothyroxine 150 mcg, trazadone 200 mg bedtime, zoloft 300 mg. macrobiotic vitamins, fish oil, MOM OF 2 BOYS :) survivor extraordinarine!!!!

Hi everyone, thank you so much for responding. I really appreciate you help. All though now I'm ready to beat my head against the wall! I asked my SIL to pick up my script on her way home from work. She wouldn't do it. She came home and gave me my vicodin back??????? I have already discussed the change with my dr.

I really want to try the ultram. I don't have a problem with giving it a try. If it works and won't string me out I'd go for it.
