Most of you know I am in end stage renal disease and am on dialysis.  Well, my doc wanted me to do a 24 hour urine and some blood work to see where I am at kidney function wise.  When I started dialysis I was down to 8%.  I did the 24 hour urine and turned it in Monday am and had my blood work done.  Monday afternoon my nephrologist's nurse called and said the neph wants to see me in her office tomorrow.  What is really unusual is that dialysis patients no longer see their doc "in clinic", the docs make rounds a few times a month to the dialysis unit.  So, the news is either really good or really bad!  I will find out at 1215 tomorrow!  Please say a prayer for some good news, as many of you, I could use it!  Thanx, Judy

Thank you guys so much for your concern. I am about to leave now for my appt. I have a 45 minute drive. (the price I pay for a wonderful doc) I didn't sleep a wink last night and am really tense. I could go for one of those massages they were talking about in the other thread! I will update you all when I get home. Thanx again! Judy

Just got back from the doctor. My kidney function is up to 21% and my dialysis has been put on hold! Woo-hoo!!!! My doc said her gut feeling is it's a temporary reprieve and I will end up back on dialysis. I said "I'll take that!" This will give me time to spend with my grandma who is not doing good at all! I am still a candidate for a transplant (anything under 28%) so I am still working toward that goal. God bless each one of you! Judy

Thanx to everyone of you. It is a substantial improvement and they are not sure why it occurred at all; my doc's gut feeling is that it wont last because when they did an ultrasound of my kidneys they are extremely small from sclerosis. But she also said, "I'm not the final authority, God is, and we'll leave it in His hands!"

I have to be real careful with my diet. I'm trying to wean off of the prednisone. And I got offered a free membership at an exclusive gym in my town to start trying to recondition myself and lose weight for the transplant! God really has been good to me. Crazy thing is, i'm scared to death to go to the gym and embarassed because of my appearance and i'm scared to death to be in the condition i'm in and not got to the gym! I'm going to give it a shot! Any advice? Judy

I have been reading this forum for a while and have learned alot from it. I have had lupus for 20 years now. In 1999 I was also taken off dialysis not knowing for how long. It has been 10 years now. My numbers have fallen recently but still at about 26% and feeling decent. Just wanted to let you know that it can be long term. They still don't know why but that doesn't really matter.

Hey Judy...that is awsome about the free gym membership! Don't worry about what people might think about your appearance. I am pretty sure most people will be really supportive! Will you have a personal trainer to assist you to make sure you don''t overdue it and to make sure you are using the machines the correct way? I am so excited for you and just think about how much better you may feel being able to get a good workout and loosing some weight! I am actually going to sign up to start working out at Curves this Saturday! I used to be a fitness instructor at Curves and think it will be the best workout I can do since the machines are hydrolic and with the muscle weakness from the prednisone not having to lift weights. Also something that encourages me is that it is a only women fitness center and women of all sizes. We even had a few women reaching 300 pds! Well sorry about rambeling but deffinalty let us know how the gym goes for you :)

Actually I will have a personal trainer.  My next to the oldest sister (actually my first cousin, but my parents raised her and her two sisters) is a personal trainer at this gym and will be working with me.  She is also going to be typed and cross matched to see if she's a match for the kidney transplant!  She told her boss about me and he offered me a free unlimited membership.  There are still good people in the world!

Grandma-welcome and thank you so much for sharing your encouraging experience with me.  I know you are thankful to be spared dialysis for this long.  What a blessing!  You know what's kind of funny, I feel guilty!  I made alot of friends at dialysis and I just feel a lil guilty that they are still there and I worry about them!  Anyway, nice to meet you!  God Bless You, Judy

I felt that way to and even went back to visit. Some of us were pretty close, spending all that time together we would talk alot. Sadly they are all gone now except one man that got a transplant. I am very grateful, I got to raise my kids in a more normal way, it was really hard when I was on dialysis, they were all teenagers. My kidneys show really small and they don'y know why they are working either. But as long as they are I am grateful. Thanks for the welcome it is nice to talk to others that understand.

Are you diet/fluid restricted? They did not tell me any specific restrictions, just be careful! Do you have problems with swelling? Just curious. I want to do the best I can. Judy

I was careful at first, but now I don't have any restrictions. They tell me to watch my salt and I take 20mg of lasix a day. I have no swelling. I do have problems with my blood pressure it is very hard to control.

It's amazing that the lasix haven't caused your creatinine to go up! That's great. How often do you see your nephrologist? Sorry so many questions. You don't have to answer if you don't want to. THanx, Judy
