Positive ana test today

Hi I'm new here and received a call from my Dr telling be my ana test was positive today, I don't know the exact numbers yet.

I have been dealing with stomach issues for years now always assuming that I had gallstones but in December after numerous tests showing nothing they finally were able to diagnose me with chronic pancreatitis they ran auto immune tests ana & IGG4 which all came back ok so they basically assumed it was idiopathic and told me I needed to take enzymes the rest of my life.

I went to see an allergist to see why I was getting hives and see if maybe an allergy was causing the pancreatitis and she's the one who called me today and told me the test was positive.

So my question is could a positive ana test be the reason for my pancreatitis are do I get to look forward to other forms of fun ways my body can torture me? I know I should be asking my Dr but I probably won't see her for a couple of weeks.

Hello peekaboo, Welcome!!! you found the right place..

I think most of us have stomach problems some from the meds. we are taking, and others like myself autoimmune. I don't have pancreatist sorry I can't help, other people will be on, maybe they can help. Take Care

Thanks for the welcome Debbie. I was thinking my pancreatitis might of been from the Advil I have been taking for back pain because they couldn't find any other reason but I guess I'll find out when I see my Dr. The only meds I take are Pancreatic enzymes, Pantaloc 2 times a week and Tylenol if I have an attack.

I hope your doctor takes the time to talk to you about your positive ana and that he gives you the numbers of your lab results. If it's high, you should think about seeing a rheumatologist.

I know nothing about pancreatitis, sorry, but I do know all about chronic illness. I hope you get some answers soon.

Hi Peekaboo, Welcome to the forum. There is a post in "Lupus Resources" (link in my signature) which talks about the "pattern" of the positive ANA. Each pattern gives some clues as to what type of autoimmune disease you might be dealing with. Has your doctor ruled out Crohn's? I think pancreatitis is common with Crohn's Disease. Patty is right . . . a rheumatologist would be the doctor to put together the bigger picture. There are some links at the end of my signature that might be helpful too. Keep us posted. Blessings!

Thanks for the Welcome Rosie & Pat. I have been through every gastrointestinal test available with biopsies as well and the only thing they discovered was my pancreatitis which they didn't want to do a biopsy on due to inflammation. I have had elevated enzyme blood tests 3 times but the other times they were all ok my Igg4 is normal and so was my ana in December but my test in February came back positive. Last June we moved to the country and that is when I started getting hives so I think it has something to do with where I live even though my allergy tests came back basically normal. Other then the Pancreatitis everything else is pretty much ok.

Can ANA test give false positives? I now know I've had pancreatitis since 2003 even though it wasn't diagnosed as that's the first test with high enzymes but after that they only showed 2 times even though there's a lot of damage to my pancreas I just wonder if ANA plays peekaboo the same way my enzymes did.

I also have a positive ANA (1:640) and have been diagnosed with Idiopathic Chronic Pancreatitis. As well, (-) IGG4.
