OK . . . so I got a call from the rheumie's office and they say I have a vitamin D deficiency (they feel that this is behind some of the extreme muscle pain/cramping I have) and that I should take 2000 iu's of vit. D2 on a daily basis to help combat it. They said my vit. D levels were approx. 60% below normal.
MY question is this: I may not be a doctor, but I am not dumb . . . don't you need UV to synthesize vit. D????
I have been told to stay out of the sun, I have been told to wear sunblock and protective clothing whenever I go outside to reduce/eliminate my UV exposure because it just wreaks havoc on my skin and on how I feel. Now I am being told to take something that my body is just going to flush unabsorbed unless I, now, increase my UV exposure.
If I increase my UV exposure, my skin issues will flare pretty much uncontrollably (it only takes 15 minutes of unprotected sun to make my "spots" come out to play) and I will be an achy mess for days after . . . BUT, if I increase my UV exposure, I (maybe) won't have this stupid vit. D deficiency.
Hate it, hate it, hate it, hate it, hate it, hate it, hate it . . . . WHAT THE HECK!?!?!?!?!?!
Anyone else have this issue? What do YOU do???
