My appt went okay but I still have no answers. He wants me to do another oral glucose tolerance test. I am scared to death to do because last time I went to hospital lab to have one done they would not listen to me when I started crashing. I was basically on my own until they decided to check labs & realised I wasn't crazy. I also am having more blood work ran for thyroid. I know I have read on someones thread on here that they have problems with hypoglycemia. If anyone knows who it is I would love to talk to them. Endo said my pushed out ribcage is not too much to worry about, If it was caused by something being swollen they would have seen it on ct. I'm suposed to go back in 3 wks. My problem is I have no insurance & all these docs want cash upfront. I have applied for ssi & medical card but I think they hope you die before they have to give it to you. My next appt is tuesday with new rhuemy, she wants 300. upfront. Good thing I was blessed with a good brother!

dont give up on the ssi get a lawyer! i got it the first time i applied with a lawyer they go back to the date when you first became disabled and pay you a lump sum from that date until now your lawyer will take his fee from that sum try for social security disability not ssi the diferance is with ssd you get medicare and you will then get medicade for secondary insurance plus ssd pays more per month than ssi like i said every time i applied on my own i was turned down the FIRST time i used an lawyer i got it and the medicare is great i am 43 yrs and i was shocked to get medicare but you get it with ssd not ssi i hope and pray for you to get this help i know you need it i know how expensive these specialist can be i would be in big trouble without it hope this helps .

Hi danab, I don't have true hypoglycemia where the levels do fall below 3. Mine is odd.... I have all the symptoms of true hypo but my levels remain normal. I did many of those glucose tests with all of them ending up just fine. Apparently my situation is common in Fibromyalgia. Those symptoms are just awful!

Now that they know you are a true case, you'll have lots of company during your test. They will likely start an IV for you too incase they have to pop some glucose into you quickly.

Yes, keep trying with the ssi lawyer. Don't give up! I live in Canada where the health care is "almost" free. I don't have much advice for you about this. Thank goodness for awesome brothers

Hi danab--
I get hypo and hyperglycemia due to my liver, I have glycogen storage disease and metabolic problems, as well as prediabetes. My rib cage gets pushed out from my liver swelling, they should be able to feel that by palpation, and also from bloating from my messed up gi tract. Prilosec has helped me and I will likely be on it for the rest of my life.

Metformin was a life saver for me and straightened out my hyper and hypoglycemia, but they have to be sure its the right med for you or it could make your hypoglycemia worse. They need to look a little deeper into it. IF you find you have "fatty liver" you really need a consult with a really good hepatologist who is up on current treatments. Not only cn they stop damage in its tracks and keep the fatty liver from progressing to cirrhosis, but they can straighten out your sugar and bloodpressure if it is bouncing around too, as well as helping you get on the right type of diet for your condition.

I hope they do an ultrasound andfind out what is wrong. Do you have copies of your recent liver bloodwork? It mght be worth checking. Some docs don't put together slight increases with blood sugar problems and realize it could be fatty liver.

I hope you keep doing well and they figure you out soon. Take care and if you feel really bad, go to the ER at least most hospitals have some form of free low income financial assistance. If the abdominal pain is bad, they may do a ct scan or something and then they can find out what is wrong. I've been in your position and it is dfficult. I hope you get ssi or disability or medicaid or something soon.
