I have systemic lupus and I have been noticing some problems with my balance has anyone else gone through this, I have also been having some memory loss and it gets so frustrating. cry

Oh yes I have definatly had balance issues lupus can affect your brain as well as any other organ I have had such severe brain inflamation before that I had hallucunations ...but loss of balance and a occacional fall is well in the norm for someone who has lupus and the memory loss is completley normal for lupus as well every time I tell my daughter something she says you have told me this twice already mom! dont be to scared just mention it to your doc .hope you feel better soon .....nona

Hey cg,

Balance issues are common. If I stand and close my eyes, I begin to sway. Brain Fog is
normal for me. I also have fibromyalgia so alot of my symptoms overlap.

Hey CG. I fall about once a month. Last Dec I fell backwards down my stairs and my back crashed thru the drywall. Of course I then spent the day in the ER. The large hole still stands as my testament. Lastly, Im on full disability and don't have to worry bout costs. I think there may be something at the top of our forum called "Lupus Resources" that may be of help. Welcome to our forum. Love, Butterflake

I also have balance issues, but I'm more dizzy than anything else.
I didn't know the forgetfulness was associated to Lupus. I thought I was just literally losing my mind bit by bit. I guess in some weird sense, I really am. Just yesterday I asked my daughter to go next door to ask if we could borrow dishsoap. Literally two minutes later, I had to ask my husband what exactly my words were to her because I couldn't remember if I had actually said dish soap or if my stupid head said something else and meant dish soap.

Thank Goodness he knows better than to laugh at me!

balance issues YES i have a lot of ear issues
brain fog YES what we we talking about. i try laugh at the sillier stuff. i also write evrything down or else it is gonners! bothered me at first and now only on the really down days otherwise its laughable.

Hi CG, I'm another one with the balance issues. It's so common for us. The brain fog too. You're not alone at all. I'm like Robin. I have Fibromyalgia too which presents overlapping symptoms. If it isn't one, it's the other!

Hi, Butterflake

I read the storie and I just loved it. I want to say thank you so very much there are truly good friends here and you are one of them, today my knees are so swollen and feet and ankles. The pain won't stop and I just want to scream! the crying has started again but i'm sure you know about this. I am having a little memory issue today but this is what i get right! Butterflake I have only had lupus for one year and i still don't understand how you all are so strong, I guess i am just weak i am scared and at times i don't know where to turn. I am going to check out the resources here because I am going to also try again and get on disability because I have no medical insurance to see a doctor to treat my lupus. I have been seeing a family doctor and times he wants to send me to pain management docs. but i can't because of no insurance so I hope i can get some disability.

I posted back a litle and lynnwood and Bill gave some great stuff on this. An ear nose and throat doc can get you tested for your balance. Apparently balance has to do with your eyes and ears and they do a hearing and balance test. I hopw you feel better.

I also suggest getting to an ENT because some balance problems can be fixed I know I used to get inner ear infections all the time and had serious balance problems. We have no idea why I stopped getting them but once they stopped my balance problems stopped. My brother needed tubes in his ears for his problems. It is very important to rule out inner ear problems when balance is the issue.

Thanks for the tip, sorry i was not able to reply soon but i was in the er for 2 days and in bed for 4 days. i have not been feeling well at all the doc said that i need to have my meds changed and i am just still not feeling well at all. I was checking my emails and seen the post there so i hope that everyone else and of course you are doing much better than me, so i will let my doctor know of this and i hope to get to feeling better soon.

Sorry cg. I'm glad they figurd out you needed your meds changed. Well for me I was having dizzy spells and loss of balance "vertigo" and ear ringing and momentary hearing loss, even had a migraine for a while which is rare for me. It sounds like I have some autoimmune ear condition, like Minears disease or something else. I'm supposed to call the hearing and balance center and go running in there for a test, when I'm so dizzy I can't drive and take a test that makes you want to vomit when I'm already ready to vomit. That is the answer I got for that one! Anyway, I'm doing better, thank goodness, thanks to prednisone. I think my hormones were messed up bad because I was also falling asleep alll the time and my family had a real hard time waking me and often I couldn't stay awake. Maybe it was a flare or due to my hormones, I don't know.

I'm so sorry you are so sick, and I hope that you get well soon. I'm so glad they figured it out.

Hi Margi
I am really sorry for not getting back to you sooner but I have been so sick that I had to go to the er twice this week. The first visit to the er was monday morning, the er doctor said that I had a real small heart attack a while back and i didn't even know this plus he said that my white blood cells were pretty high. Then the second visit the er doc again said i had to have several test done and no more signs of heart attacks but that i needed to see my doctor because he would be the one that would need to prescribe me my medication, and my doctor did put me on more blood pressure medicine because my blood pressure was not staying in control. so i am now on another med and i still get chest pains on and off but the er doc said that my heart is fine, but Margi i am so scared i am more sick than usual and i cried to my husband last night because i get this feeling as though i am going to die. I know that i am not suppose to be afraid of dying but i am Margi i don't want to leave my husband and children and granchildren. I am sorry here i am again telling you my problems and yet you are going through pain yourself, i hope that you are feeling better today and you will be in my prayers, thanks again Margi for care and support you have given me and if there is anything that i can do for you please i am here to lend my ear.
